Condoleezza Rice: 'I Don't Know When Immigrants Became The Enemy'

The Huffington Post | By Nick Wing Posted: 04/11/2012 9:24 am Updated: 04/11/2012 9:24 am

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice spoke on a variety of topics in front of a crowd at Duke University Tuesday night, offering a particular criticism of the nation's stance on immigration.

"That immigrant culture that has renewed us ... has been at the core of our strength," she said, according to the The Raleigh News & Observer. "I don't know when immigrants became the enemy."

Rice has long lamented the Bush administration's failure to address comprehensive immigration reform during two terms in office, a disappointment that she reportedly reiterated on Tuesday.

In 2009, she called the lack of action one of her "biggest regrets."

"America has always been able to attract the most ambitious people who are determined to have a better life," Rice said during an appearance at Stanford University, where she currently teaches. "If we ever lose that and start to believe that somehow that it is instead a threat to us to have those people come here, we are going to lose one of the strongest elements of not just our national wealth, but of our national soul."

She has also spoken out on the need to get undocumented immigrants out of the "shadows," and last year issued a warning about Alabama's controversial immigration enforcement law.

“I think we need to be really careful about what kind of laws we pass and that, in the effort to get a handle on this problem, we don’t end up making the problem worse,” she told Alabama's Press-Register, after claiming that inaction at the federal level was catalyzing such measures. "The fact is that, generally speaking, this patchwork approach is not serving us well and we need to find a better solution. State laws are just not going to do it."

Rice has also recently been included on GOP presidential frontrunner Mitt Romney's vice presidential short list, according to some reports, though she has denied that she'd accept the position.

Proof positive that Condoleezza Rice is a TRAITOR against the American people. How anyone can stand at a podium and claim to be oblivious to the numerous problems and atrocities innocent American citizens are experiencing due to Bush and Obama's illicit open borders plans is just astounding.

Someone needs to throw some harmless red liquid on these traitors like Condoleeza Rice to symbolize and remind them of the thousands of Americans that lose their lives and the tens of thousands of Americans that lose their jobs and homes each year due to illegal immigration.

The mere fact that Rice used the term immigrants or immigration instead of acknowledging legitimate concerns about ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION proves she is a lying traitor that probably deserves jail time along with Bush and Obama.

Legal Immigrants have never been the "enemy". Illegal foreign nationals (Illegal aliens) that have come here to steal, rob, lie and procreate as an industry are another story.

Never the enemy Ms. Rice but more to the point a failing government allowing uncontrolled immigration that threatens the low and middle income workers that were born here, look it's simply the numbers how many would be enough, the Bush administration encouraged those to come stating time and time again how much we need those who come across, doing jobs Americans would not do, put them in homes they could not afford destroying the housing market.

I'm always amazed at those in power/wealthy telling us who we should accept/tolerate while they live in gated secure communities, second we no longer live in a country that ma and pa can immigrate here grab a mule and 40 acres and provide a living for 6 kids, it's gone I simply do not understand why that is difficult to understand,if we are to survive with a fair/similar quality of life then we must control our borders and monitor incoming folks and a yearly establish number.
I'm old with many opinions few solutions.
