Hispanic Dolls Put Heritage Into Play

An article in the September 29 Sun-Sentinel talks about the dolls and Hispanic buying power.

Smiling from behind their rounded spectacles, Abuelito Pancho and Abeulita Rosa sing Spanish lullabies that stir warm childhood memories for many Hispanics-and tug at their purse strings.
The silver-haired grandparent dolls are the inspiration of three working moms from Miami who set out to preserve Hispanic culture for future generations They ended up on the toy shelves of major retail stores, including, Toys "R" Us and Target. Earlier this month, Wal Mart, the world's largest retailer, announced it would carry the dolls at more than 330 stores.

I can already tell you that Walmart has nothing I want to purchase. I went to Walmart to purchase a new hand mixer and everyone of them was made in China. All of the clothes in our Walmart store look like something a woman from India or some third world country would wear and made so cheap that it looks like it would fall apart the first time it was run through the washer. I can't go out on the street wearing such clothes! I would like to see some of our congresswomen wearing that junk since they want to pass all these trade agreements. I couldn't even buy any potholders, all of those are made in China also. If I have to I will purchase used merchandise before I buy 'made in China or Mexico, etc. What a shame, Sam Walton advertised 'made in the U.S.A.

Sawdust; I agree with you. I never shop there for similar reasons. Another reason is that you hear very little English in their. It is a good place to pick up an off duty assignment if you are a police officer. You get lots of shoplifters.

I had an 82 year man I knew and his comment on Wal Mart was why would anyone want to buy that cheap junk that is made in China?
