Immigration Advocates Urge State Lawmakers To Stay Away

Immigration Advocates Urge State Lawmakers To Stay Away From Federal Issues
    Monday, March 26, 2007, 5:28 PM
    By Laura McNamara

Immigrant and refugee advocacy organizations want the state to keep its nose out of what it calls federal business. The Missouri Immigrant and Refugee Advocates, a group of about 30 organizations, says the STRIVE Act, or the Security Through Regularized Immigration and Vibrant Economy, is a bill working its way through Congress that would replace the current immigration system - a system the group calls unregulated, chaotic, even abusive. But, the group says that means the state doesn't need to meddle with immigration issues.

Senator Joan Bray of St. Louis says she agrees and is calling on leaders of the state house and the senate to quit its grandstanding with immigration issues, halt state immigration legislation and let Congress do its job.

"We do not need 50 states doing 50 immigration laws," Bray says. "The states are in no way in any position to regulate immigration as proposed by some [state] bills. There is no way the Secretary of State become an immigration office. There is no way that [state] law enforcement can become immigration officers." She says current state legislation only serves to divide communities, pitting person against person and turning neighbors into enemies who are suspcious of each other. Bray says such legislation is simply based on fear or misinformation and she says Missouri shouldn't foster that kind of atmosphere.

The advocacy groups urge the state to tackle important state issues such as health care and education.

(As long as it benefits them, of course they do.)

Probably because the idiots in Washington might finally realize just how the American people would really like to see illegals dealt with---the way the states are dealing with them--enforcing federal law!

    Oh but we do!
Because the Federal Government is not doing its job!
And the states are suffering the consequences of a financial burden, a crime wave, and a real homeland security issue.

LA RAZA LOVES THE "STRIVE" ACT!

    http://www.nclr.org/content/news/detail/44866/

NCLR WELCOMES INTRODUCTION OF STRIVE ACT

Washington, DC – The National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S., today applauded Representatives Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) for taking a bold step forward and introducing the bipartisan “Security Through Regularized Immigration and a Vibrant Economy Act of 2007” (STRIVE Act). The bill was introduced today at a news conference on Capitol Hill.

“This is an important step forward on the road to comprehensive immigration reform,” stated Janet Murguía, NCLR President and CEO. “The time is now for Congress to act, and we are heartened by the number of legislators on both sides of the aisle deeply committed to producing a realistic solution to our immigration problems.”

The “STRIVE Act” includes key elements necessary to fix the broken immigration system: a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, a new worker visa program so that future immigrants can arrive legally, a reduction in family immigration backlogs which allows American families to unite in a reasonable time period, and smart enforcement mechanisms to ensure that the new system remains viable.

“Enforcement-only tactics such as anti-immigrant local ordinances and worksite raids have done nothing to curb undocumented immigration, but they have hurt local economies and caused suffering for American families,” continued Murguía. “Only a comprehensive approach like the ‘STRIVE Act’ provides the right framework for a truly workable and effective solution.”

“We know this is not a perfect bill and that the devil is in the details, but NCLR and its coalition partners will work hard to ensure that any bill that becomes law is workable, fully protects all workers, and guarantees the civil rights and civil liberties of all Americans,” noted Murguía.

“All in all, we believe that the introduction of the ‘STRIVE Act’ marks the beginning of a process which will result in signed legislation this year. This bill can result in good public policy for all Americans who are hungry for a real solution to a system in crisis,” concluded Murguía.

(UH, ONLY ONE PROBLEM THERE. YOU'RE NOT AMERICANS! YOU'RE CRIMINAL INVADERS!!!!)

This country was started with 13 states. Where did the Federal facist government get authority to overide the the States that are the people.

I realize the public servants are obsesed with their self-proclaimed importance, based on greed. We have a president that can't construct a simple sentence. Never mind lead this nation.

Bush is often saying he is working for and protecting the American people. He represents Mexico Not the U.S. And when I look at that guy I see my enemy. It seems virtually all of Congress is busy dividing this country in every way they can knowing we have strength in numbers and we are weaker when fighting amongst each other but they still like U.S. to fight their battles and pick us off like targets.

They obviously don't know or want to know America the Beautiful
