KINGSVILLE, Texas - U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents rescued a trapped individual from a trunk and seized more than $2.2 million worth of marijuana in separate incidents.

The rescue occurred on June 9, when Border Patrol agents assigned to the Sarita Border Patrol checkpoint encountered a blue Mercury Cougar. While an agent determined the driver's citizenship, a CBP Border Patrol canine alerted to the trunk of the vehicle. The driver was directed to the secondary inspection area where a search of the trunk led to the discovery of an adult male concealed under blankets and luggage. Agents determined the Mexican male was in the United States illegally. No medical attention was required and the subject was processed for removal from the United States. The driver and a passenger of the vehicle were arrested.

One seizure occurred on June 10, at the Sarita Border Patrol checkpoint when a tractor-trailer approached the primary lane for inspection. As an agent questioned the driver as to his citizenship, a Border Patrol canine alerted to the trailer. The driver was directed to the secondary inspection area where a search of the trailer led to the discovery of 68 bundles of marijuana concealed within a load of watermelons. The total weight of the marijuana was 1,542 pounds with an estimated value of $1,233,600.

In a separate seizure on June 9, a Border Patrol canine alerted to a Ford F-350 towing a trailer with a construction roller and two crates at the Falfurrias Border Patrol checkpoint. The driver was directed to the secondary inspection area where a search of the crates led to the discovery of 120 bundles of marijuana concealed within the wooden boxes. The total weight of the marijuana was 1,211 pounds with an estimated value of $968,800. The driver, narcotics, and tractor-trailer were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
