Tea party leader endorses US immigration overhaul

WASHINGTON (AP) — A national tea party leader is endorsing immigration overhaul legislation including legal status for the 11.5 million people now in the U.S. illegally.

Sal Russo, a co-founder of Tea Party Express, makes the comments in an opinion piece in the Roll Call newspaper.

He writes that conservatives should be at the forefront of immigration legislation to ensure it doesn't just reflect the interests of, in his words, "liberal do-gooder reformers."

Russo's comments are notable because although many establishment Republicans have backed action on immigration, while many conservatives and tea partyers have been opposed.

That opposition has stalled immigration legislation in the Republican-led House 11 months after the Senate passed a far-ranging bill.

Russo calls on the House to act and says those here illegally must get "right by the law."

Exactly, it's a no win for the GOP and the country, anyone who believes that illegals made legal will vote for the GOP is either naïve or a fool it simply will not happen.

Also, isn't Sal Russo one of the guys that threw a rally in Arizona several years ago to support the Arizona law?

If so, how ironic it is that he now supports a form of amnesty for illegal aliens that would permanently undermine the intent and spirit of that law.

The TEA party is not a free standing party, they are only an extreme wing of the Republican party, and since 1986 it has been unavoidable to recognize that Republicans favor illegal immigration, nearly as much as the Democrats. If they had declared independence of the Republican party and acted accordingly I may have favored them, now they cannot recover my allegiance. Its simple!

I just e-mailed the WH requesting Obama's resignation, then I e mailed my republican congressman requesting that he and the republican leadership immediately instigate impeachment proceedings for aiding and abetting crimanl activity by releasing 36,000 criminals on the public. Maybe if enough do what I did at least some Congressman will get it into the press that there is a clamor for impeachment, and disturb the status quo over amnesty.
