Report Says Honduran Caravan Headed To Rio Grande Valley

MCALLEN, Texas - A caravan of thousands of immigrants from Honduras is reportedly making their way to the Rio Grande Valley.

Officials from the U.S. Border Patrol and the Department of Homeland of Security say they are aware of the large group and are monitoring the situation. Reports say that as many as 2,000 immigrants from Honduras have crossed into Guatemala heading for the United States.

Congressman Vicente Gonzalez says he believes this issue can be resolved before it arrives on our doorstep. He says by starting a dialogue with foreign leaders to improve years of failed foreign policy in Central America.

"The U.S. at every level, needs to strengthen the dialogue with our neighbors to the south and develop strategies to decrease gang violence, build economies and incentivize these individuals to live and flourish in their native countries. If we fail to do this we will be dealing with the same issue next year and every year after that until we address this problem at it's core."

Border Patrol says they are aware of the situation and are monitoring it. They referred us to the Department of Homeland Security who sent this statement.

"The current reporting on the migrant "caravan" from Honduras is what we see day-in and day-out at the border as a result of well-advertised and well-known catch-and-release loopholes. As we have said time and again, until Congress acts, we will continue to have de-facto open borders that guarantees future "caravans" and record numbers of family units entering the country illegally." says Katie Waldman, DHS Spokesperson.

President Trump has also responded to the large group. Tweeting out this morning, that the United States has informed the Honduran president, that if the group is not stopped, no more aid or money will be will be given to Honduras effectively immediately.
