U.S. Customs and Border Protection has announced that a contract has been awarded to build three new miles of the border wall in Starr County.

According to the release, Kiewit Infrastructure West Company was awarded the project in the amount of $42.86 million dollars.

Construction is scheduled to begin in August 2019, according to the release.

The project will include the construction of 18 30-foot tall steel bollards, in addition to road construction, detection technology and lighting installation.

CBP said in their release that this project was not undertaken due to the National Emergency Declaration.
