Cop Shoots, Kills Man At End Of Car Chase
LA Officer Shoots Man, Apparently Mistaking Item He Was Holding For A Gun
(CBS) LONG BEACH, Calif. The man wanted in connection with the shooting of two Long Beach police officers may have been killed in an officer-involved shooting Wednesday evening in Santa Ana, police said.

Shortly after announcing that a $75,000 reward had been posted for information leading to the capture of Oscar Gabriel Gallegos, Long Beach police told reporters the suspect may be the man killed in shooting involving Santa
    Ana police officers.

Officials in Santa Ana could not immediately confirm Gallegos was the person killed in the shooting, which occurred in a parking lot near Warner Avenue and Main Street.

Gallegos, 33, is wanted on suspicion of attempted murder in Friday's shooting of Long Beach officers Roy Wade, 39, and Abe Yap, 37.

Gallegos is stocky, 5 feet 9, 220 pounds, with tattooed arms, police said.

Long Beach police Chief Anthony Batts told reporters today that both officers were recovering and doing well -- something he called "a miracle."

Batts called Gallegos a "known thug" with a rap sheet dating back to 1990, when he was arrested for a firearms violation. He has also been arrested for drug offenses, making terrorist threats and assault with a deadly weapon.

He was deported in 1994 -- apparently to Mexico -- and possibly several other times, Batts said.

Batts said Gallegos has family members in the Long Beach area and warned them that they would be prosecuted if they helped him elude capture.

Wade and Yap remained in critical but stable condition, police said.

The officers stopped a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder near Long Beach Boulevard and Sixth Street for running a red light at about 1:20 p.m. Friday, and the driver got out of the sport utility vehicle and opened fire on them while they
were still sitting in the squad car, Batts said.

Yap was shot in the face. Wade, who had just finished his police academy training three weeks ago, was shot in the chest and neck.

The officers never got out of the vehicle and did not fire back, according to Jason Evans of the Long Beach Police Department. The SUV sped away south on Long Beach Boulevard. At Broadway, the driver exchanged shots with an
officer responding to the shooting, Evans said. Neither was hit.

An officer responding to the shooting did not wait for an ambulance but drove Wade and Yap to Long Beach Memorial Hospital, where both officers underwent surgery.

The bullet missed Yap's brain and his prognosis is good. The UCLA graduate is a specialist in stolen cars. On Thursday, his 3-year-old son was released from a hospital after undergoing a medical procedure.

I am sick of their drugs, other crimes and gangs. They have to keep deporting them as much as possible.

Man Dies in Shootout With California Cops

    http://www.wral.com/news/national_world ... y/1120623/

LONG BEACH, Calif. — A man suspected of shooting two police officers during a traffic stop was killed in a wild shootout with police in a strip mall parking lot, authorities said Thursday.

More than 50 shots were fired between Santa Ana police officers and 33-year-old Oscar Gabriel Gallegos on Wednesday, Santa Ana Police Chief Paul Walters said.

Gallegos was a suspect in the December 22 shootings of two Long Beach officers during a traffic stop.

Santa Ana officers went to confront a man believed to be Gallegos, Long Beach Officer Jason Evans said. "As soon as he sees the car with the officers, he starts shooting," Walters said.

The officers got out of their car, took cover and returned fire, police said. Three officers shot at Gallegos, who was hit several times.

Gallegos continued to fire on officers even after he was shot, Walters said. He died of his wounds in the parking lot, police said.

Gallegos was an illegal immigrant who had been deported three times and had a criminal record dating back to 1990, including arrests for drug offenses and assault with a deadly weapon, authorities said.

Officers Abe Yap, 35, and Roy Wade, 39, were shot in their squad car after stopping a car for running a red light. Both are hospitalized in critical but stable condition, Long Beach Police Chief Anthony Batts said.

Well at least this time we know that he won't be coming back. Too many of them get deported and then come back.
