An Ohio man is in federal custody Thursday after allegedly threatening to kill his wife and carry out mass shootings in Las Vegas and in a church.
Wei Li of Cuyahoga Falls, is charged with interstate threatening communications and destruction of evidence.

On Nov. 6, the 28-year-old Li sent multiple threatening text messages to his estranged wife, along with the one that said he would “make the biggest [mass shooting] in history,” Cleveland.com reported.
She contacted authorities saying she feared for her life.

    What’s the story?

Li allegedly planned to kill his wife if his green card didn’t go through. He also told her in a text message that he would “shoot up a Las Vegas hotel and casino,” according to an FBI news release.

The referenced hotel was not immediately clear.

He is accused of sending his wife, who at the time worked at a Las Vegas casino, photos showing himself holding a rifle and knives, along with a list of casinos, Cleveland.com reported. Li allegedly told his wife that he had an automatic rifle.

In another message, Li told his wife she “would be blamed for all the deaths,” the FBI release said.

He also indicated plans to carry out a mass shooting at a church with at least 1,000 people in attendance, Fox News reported.

    When was Li arrested?

In a joint interview on Nov. 10, FBI agents and Cuyahoga Falls Police detectives asked Li to unlock his phone.

He complied but also deleted a string of messages.

Initially, Li lied about erasing the messages. Ultimately, he admitted deleting them because they were “bad,” Fox News reported. Li told detectives that he wasn’t “serious” about the threats.

Authorities arrested him and held him on $500,000 bond in the Summit County Jail until Thursday when his case was transferred to a federal court.

I'd like to think this incident would erase any chance this guy had at a green card, but then again, nothing concerning immigration in this country surprises me anymore.
