No decision is more important or critical to Americans than those decisions that insure the safety of our country. As American's we must continually question the decisions of our elected officials.

Almost a year ago on January 21st, 2009, Janet Napolitano was sworn in as the third Secretary of Homeland Security. Napolitano was serving as Governor of the State of Arizona when picked to serve by Obama. Napolitano a lawyer whose qualifications to hold this post are impressive but in many ways seem to mirror the qualifications of her predecessors. In fact they mirror the qualifications of many of today's politicians holding office.

Napolitano graduated from Santa Clara University in 1979, where she won a Truman Scholarship, and received her Juris Doctor (J.D.) in 1983 from the University of Virginia School of Law. After law school she served as a law clerk for Judge Mary M. Schroeder of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit before joining the law firm of Lewis and Roca.

In 1993 Napolitano was appointed by President Bill Clinton as United States Attorney for the District of Arizona.

Napolitano's homeland security background is extensive. As U.S. Attorney, she helped lead the domestic terrorism investigation into the Oklahoma City Bombing. As Arizona Attorney General, she helped write the law to break up human smuggling rings. She's also been a pioneer in coordinating federal, state, local and bi-national homeland security efforts, and presided over large scale disaster relief efforts and readiness exercises to ensure well-crafted and functional emergency plans. We now know that those plans were deficient.

In 2002 she won the Arizona gubernatorial election with 46 percent of the vote. As Governor, she implemented one of the first state homeland security strategies in the nation, opened the first state counter-terrorism center and spearheaded efforts to transform immigration enforcement.

    Arizona Republic: December 28th, 2009.

“Still, Napolitano has resisted pressure from the state's Republican-controlled Legislature to take an even harder stance against illegal immigration. She vetoed more than a dozen bills aimed at cracking down on illegal immigrants.

Earlier this year, Napolitano also yanked $1.6 million in state funding from Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio to blunt his efforts to arrest illegal immigrants through crime sweeps that critics said were terrorizing immigrant communities and violating civil rights.â€

Both the Bush and Obama administrations have used political considerations rather than appropriate qualifications when nominating our Secretary's of Homeland Security.
Yes because they want puppets rather than actual officials who will do the job right. They need puppets who will look the other way when necessary and take order whether they are for the right or wrong reasons.
