A new report shows the number of immigrants living in the U.S. -- legal and illegal -- is at an all-time high. Immigrants total more than 41 million -- double what it was in 1990.
ALIPAC's William Gheen believes the numbers are much higher, and blames a lack of security along the southern border.
“That lack of enforcement is leading to millions of Americans losing their jobs, more Americans being impacted by the billions of wage depreciation, and then thousands of Americans being killed by illegal immigrants each year,” Gheen says.
Congressman Henry Cuellar says he's seeing progress along the border, but enforcement continues to be an issue.
“Seventy percent of those family members that got released on the honor system, have not shown up for their hearings,” Cuellar tells KTRH News. “This is why I was always saying we need to have hearings close to the border, not this catch and release.”
One take away -- immigrants from the Middle East, Asia and Caribbean outnumbered those from Latin America in the past three years.
Bob Dane at the Federation for American Immigration Reform says they're all putting stress on America as a whole.
“The result is stiff competition for jobs, downward pressure on wages and high-demands on limited services,” Dane says. “That impact is felt not only by Americans, but the immigrants themselves.”
Dane says this is why the lure of amnesty is such a bad idea.
