Mardoqueo Majia-Fajardo, a citizen of Honduras, opened P.O. boxes in Wallace and Beulaville and used the boxes to receive nearly 120 federal tax refunds, investigators said.
He allegedly used a fake name to open the P.O. boxes; the refunds were in the names of other people, agents said.
Immigration and IRS officials were among those who investigated Majia-Fajardo.
The returns were for tax years 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011.
The refunds totaled $830,774, agents said.
Investigators on Monday filed a criminal complaint against Majia-Fajardo.
He’s charged with making false statements and illegal entry by an alien.
Another man also allegedly used the Wallace Post Office to collect refunds.
Eli Valla collected more than $1.5 million in refunds from 217 separate tax returns in other people’s names, agents said.
Valla is not accused of illegally being in the country.
