Critics predict new California motor-voter law will flood rolls with non-citizens

By Valerie Richardson - The Washington Times - Sunday, October 11, 2015

A bill signed Saturday by California Gov. Jerry Brown aimed at improving voter turnout has critics predicting that it will ramp up voter fraud by making it easier for non-citizens to cast ballots.

The New Motor Voter Act automatically registers to vote all eligible voters when they obtain or renew their driver’s licenses at the Department of Motor Vehicles, instead of requiring them to fill out a form. Those eligible may opt out of voter registration.

The goal is to ease barriers to voting, but election-integrity advocates warn that the measure could inadvertently add millions of illegal voters to the rolls, given that California allows undocumented aliens to obtain driver’s licenses.

Anti-fraud groups True the Vote and the Election Integrity Project of California had urged Mr. Brown, a Democrat, to veto the bill, saying it would lead to “‘state sanctioned’ voter fraud” and pointing out that the legislation exempts from penalties ineligible voters who wind up being registered.

“This bill is terrible. It makes an already bad situation much, much worse,” True the Vote founder Catherine Engelbrecht said in a statement.

Ms. Engelbrecht said California’s registration databases “lack the necessary safeguards to keep non-citizens off the voter rolls.”

The measure, Assembly Bill 1461, “will effectively change the form of governance in California from a Republic whose elected officials are determined by United States citizens and will guarantee that non-citizens will participate in all California elections going forward,” Election Integrity Project of California President Linda Paine said in a statement.

Supporters, including California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, argued that the bill is needed to increase flagging voter turnout. In 2014, only 42 percent of eligible voters cast ballots even as other states saw increased turnout, while an estimated 6.6 million eligible state voters remain unregistered.

“The New Motor Voter Act will make our democracy stronger by removing a key barrier to voting for millions of California citizens,” Mr. Padilla said in a statement. “Citizens should not be required to opt in to their fundamental right to vote. We do not have to opt in to other rights, such as free speech or due process.”

Although the law goes into effect Jan. 1, the first automatic registrations will not take place until next year, after the state finishes work on its revamped voter-registration data base VoteCal. The upgraded system is expected to be completed in time for the June primary.

California becomes the second state to provide for “opt-out” voter registration, following Oregon, where Democratic Gov. Kate Brown signed a similar bill in March.

Ms. Brown’s office said in a statement that the bill would “help improve elections and expand voter rights and access in California.”

So far, the concept enjoys public support. A poll conducted by the Public Policy Institute of California released in June found that two-thirds of those surveyed favored the idea of automatic DMV voter registration.

Critics argue that California’s low voter turnout can be attributed to other factors, starting with the state’s impregnable Democratic majority, increasingly rare statewide contested elections, and historically safe congressional seats.

Stephen Frank of the conservative California Political Review predicted the latest bill will actually reduce voter turnout by increasing fraud and reducing confidence in the integrity of the voter rolls.

“AB 1461 assures corruption of our elections — our elections will look like those of Mexico and other corrupt nations — and honest people will stop voting since illegal aliens will out vote them,” Mr. Frank said in a website post.

It's outrageous. The problems this massive illegal immigration and excess legal immigration have caused our country are too numerous to list. Their tentacles reach out and grab for the purpose of changing everything we know and depend on to be who and what we are, or at least were once. I hope all the churches and other 501 C 3's who believe they're doing "God's Work" and live by the creed of "God Above Government" with respect to "welcoming the stranger", "we're a nation of immigrants", "no human is illegal", and blah blah blah are happy with the third world debt-ridden poverty-stricken hell hole they've turned our country into.

JERRY BROWN SIGNS BILL THAT COULD LET ILLEGAL ALIENS VOTE

    by WILLIAM BIGELOW

On Saturday, California Governor Jerry Brown signed Assembly Bill 1461, the New Motor Voter Act, which will automatically register people to vote through the DMV, and could result in illegal aliens voting.

Any person who renewed or secured a driver’s license through the DMV may now register to vote, or choose to opt out of doing so. Because illegal immigrants are now eligible for obtaining driver’s licenses, they could be allowed to vote in elections if the Secretary of State’s office fails to verify their eligibility properly.

Brown and the California Democratic party know exactly what they are doing; as a Public Policy Institute survey showed, among unregistered adults, 49% lean toward the Democratic Party and 22% toward the Republican Party. Any bill permitting illegal immigrants to vote would cement the Democratic Party’s hold on California.

True the Vote founder Catherine Engelbrecht stated, “This bill is terrible. It makes an already bad situation much, much worse,” adding that California’s registration databases “lack the necessary safeguards to keep noncitizens off the voter rolls.”

Election Integrity Project of California President Linda Paine echoed that AB 1461 “will effectively change the form of governance in California from a Republic whose elected officials are determined by United States citizens and will guarantee that noncitizens will participate in all California elections going forward.” The Election Integrity Project of California had joined True the Vote to demand that brown veto the bill, calling it a path to “‘state sanctioned’ voter fraud.”

Although noncitizens’ driver’s licenses in California feature the phrases “Federal Limits Apply” and “not valid for official federal purposes,” True the Vote spokesman Logan Churchwell pointed out that state officials “specifically chose not to make noncitizen license holders searchable in their DMV database.”

California Secretary of State Alex Padilla countered that the increase in voters will benefit the state, arguing, “The New Motor Voter Act will make our democracy stronger by removing a key barrier to voting for millions of California citizens. Citizens should not be required to opt in to their fundamental right to vote. We do not have to opt in to other rights, such as free speech or due process.”

California follows Oregon, where Democratic Gov. Kate Brown signed a bill in March allowing the automatic registration of all eligible Oregonians to vote when they obtain or renew a driver’s license or state identification card.

But Stephen Frank of California Political Review bluntly asserted that the bill will reduce voter turnout because voters will sniff fraud in the polls: “AB 1461 assures corruption of our elections–our elections will look like those of Mexico and other corrupt nations–and honest people will stop voting since illegal aliens will out vote them.”

Another serious breach of our laws - "Citizenship Required to Vote". The initial talk with issuing driver's licenses to illegals was the license would be marked "non-citizen" and stated non citizen on the auto voter reg list. Perhaps that has changed as did the introduction of DACA for children brought here by their parents and then extended to millions that simply where here before a certain date.

I see by a previous post of 4/15 that "The motor voter act became law during the Clinton administration as an easier way to register voters through their local Department of Motor Vehicles" - Mr Nafta himself, followed by "Open the Border WIDE" Bush to the most deceitful of all Obama to finalize this takeover agenda.

I see a major election challenge brewing in these states. It could be worse than in 2000 with Florida. It could be every state that issues drivers licenses to illegal aliens and automatically registers you to vote when you get your license. We have that here in NC and I'm sure it was problem before that law was repealed. They're trying to pass another one, but I think it's stopped for now.

Under our current federal laws it is a felony for an illegal alien to register to vote. It is a second felony for an illegal immigrant to then actually vote.

But we know from the documentation here in our archives at www.alipac.us that large numbers of illegal aliens have been voting in large numbers in states like California and Arizona for years.

Illegal aliens and their backers steal jobs and elections by the bundle and their plan is to steal the entire United States of America!

    UPDATE
    10/17/15

. . . Some concern has been raised that Motor Voter will lead to voter fraud in the shape of illegal immigrants casting ballots. That’s a nonstarter. The DMV already screens out non-citizens who have AB 60 driver’s licenses. And, the DMV is prohibited from sending the Secretary of State records belonging to anyone who can’t satisfy voter eligibility requirements, including AB 60 applicants . . .
