Two Danbury residents pleaded guilty in federal court Thursday to participating in a scheme to produce counterfeit documents for illegal immigrants.

Renato Ferreira Soares, 37, and Gilderley Batista DeAndrade, 38, face up to five years in prison when they are sentenced Feb. 6 in U.S. District Court in New Haven.

The men were indicted by a grand jury in September after a joint investigation by Danbury police and federal Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents.

Court documents alleged the two, along with a third Danbury man, 30-year-old Ricardo Soares, produced seven sets of documents for illegal immigrants living in Danbury between June and August, and that DeAndrade sold them in September to an individual who hasn't been identified by authorities.

All three men are in the custody of immigration officials. Ricardo Soares' case is still pending.
