NORWALK -- A former Norwalk barber, convicted of stabbing his boss in the chest with a pair of scissors, was sentenced to a year in prison Thursday at U.S. District Court in Bridgeport for illegally re-entering the country.

Willie Antonio Samuel-Baldayaquez, 30, will be deported to the Dominican Republic at the end of his sentence, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman Ross Feinstein.

Prosecutors say Samuel-Baldayaquez illegally entered the United States in 1998 and eventually settled down in New Haven. In 2008, he was convicted of sale of a controlled substance, and he was deported in 2009. He re-emerged in the city of Norwalk in 2011, taking a job at George's Barber Shop, 606 West Ave., police said.

On June 13, 2011, Samuel-Baldayaquez got into a heated argument with his boss regarding which customer was next in line, police said. His boss swung an electric razor at him, and he responded by stabbing his boss in the chest with a pair of scissors, according to police.

Samuel-Baldayaquez drove his boss to Norwalk Hospital and was eventually captured by police.

He initially identified himself to police as "Rafael Santana," but a routine check of his fingerprints revealed that he was actually "Willy Samuel," police said.

Samuel-Baldayaquez was sentenced on April 18 to a year in prison after pleading guilty to third-degree assault and interfering with an officer in connection with the stabbing. He is currently incarcerated at an undisclosed federal facility.
