CT - Former Clinton resident sentenced for illegally reentering United State

NEW HAVEN — A 39-year-old former Clinton resident has been sentenced to three month in prison for illegally reentering the United States after he had been deported, officials said in a statement.
Oscar Cuapio-Rodriguez, also known as Oscar Zuapio-Rodriguez and Pedro Cuapio-Rodriguez, a citizen of Mexico, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall to about three months of imprisonment, time already served, the statement said.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Cuapio-Rodriguez was deported from the U.S. to his native Mexico in 1998 and again in 2005. In 2006, he illegally reentered the U.S. without first obtaining the consent of the attorney general of the United States or his successor, the Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, to reapply for admission into the U.S., the statement said.
Cuapio-Rodriguezhas been detained since Nov. 4, when he was arrested in Clinton and charged with theft of a credit card. He was transferred into federal custody on Nov. 26, the statement said.
On Jan. 29 Cuapio-Rodriguez pleaded guilty to one count of illegal reentry of a removed alien, the statement said.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Deborah R. Slater, the statement said.
