Pope Speaks Up for Immigrants, Touching a Nerve

Pope Speaks Up for Immigrants, Touching a Nerve

By DANIEL J. WAKIN and JULIA PRESTON

Even as he was flying to the United States, Pope Benedict XVI spoke of protecting immigrant families, not dividing them.

He raised the issue again in a meeting on Wednesday with President Bush, and later that day spoke in Spanish to the church’s “many immigrant children.â€

I guess separation of church and state is a one way street in which government cannot interfere with religious affairs, but churches can claim exempt status while intermeddling in political affairs in an effort to promote their political idologies.

Did I miss the Pope's simultaneous announcement that he will now invite illegal aliens to be welcomed into Vatican City???

Did I miss the photos of day-labor hiring sites on the plaza in Vatican City?

    I thought not.

I am waiting for the Pope to acknowledge that every country has a right to defend its borders and to INVITE people in.

Reuniting families "torn apart" is the responsibility of the PARENTS to keep their family together in their own country, not blame us for deporting parents, who have the right, and obligation, to take their children with them on their way home.

Please mend your own fences around your pedophile priests and your church policies that shield them from prosecution and REWARDS the worst offender, Cardinal Law (formerly of Boston), with a PROMOTION to a post at the Vatican, out of reach of Massachusetts law enforcement agencies. And tell LA Archbishop Mahoney not to hide his priests from legal proceedings while at the same time he harbors illegal aliens.

And sell $2 BILLION in Vatican art treasures to reimburse your faithful for their weekly donations turned into the hush money your lawyers have paid to the sexually-abused children.

Boy, did I have to hold my tongue writing this!!! The NERVE!!

The Pope and Cardinal Roger Mahony, the archbishop of Los Angeles, should meet with Jamiel Shaw's parents and discuss ILLEGAL immigration.
