David Marlett of Pro America Companies Calls It Quits

In this article David Marlett calls some of us racists and hypocrites for not supporting him. I'm trying to remember the deal with this guy. Didn't he derail some rally somewhere with accusations that the speaker was racist? I think he was also meeting with La Raza groups too and he had a tiff with William Gheen. I had several email exchanges with David and I remember he was very pushy and demanding and he was pissed that I removed a link to his site from my website. Can anyone shed any light on this character. I can't remember the details.

Site rejecting illegal workers closing, citing lack of support

WASHINGTON — A Web site that allowed companies to post a pledge not to hire illegal immigrants is shutting down Friday because of a lack of financial support.

The owner of the ProAmerica site, Dallas lawyer David Marlett, said that it was a worthy idea, but he now realizes that the public is not willing to support such an endeavor.

He said average Americans who are protesting day labor sites and screaming "no amnesty" are at the same time supporting companies that actively hire illegal immigrants.

"It's just the height of hypocrisy," he said. "They don't want to make changes in their personal lives."

In his hometown of Rockwall, Texas, an "extremely conservative area," not one landscaper would join the Web site, he said.

In addition, larger companies and chains did not want to participate because it was "a hot potato" for them, he added.

The site, which was launched in June, allowed companies to sign a pledge promising not to hire illegal immigrants. The site was non-profit and businesses did not have to pay to be featured.

ProAmerica also provided a free service to help companies use a Department of Homeland Security worker verification system called E-verify that compares employee information with millions of government records to make sure that applicants are legal.

The Web site, which was www.proamericacompanies.com, attracted about 1,000 companies, including at least 38 in Georgia, 46 in Texas, 42 in Florida, and 18 in Ohio.

Marlett hoped it would start a movement that would help companies who followed the law. He envisioned a ProAmerica office in Washington.

The idea was for consumers to be able to search in their area for businesses that have promised to hire only legal residents and citizens.

In a good-bye letter to company members of ProAmerica, Marlett said that such a Web site "requires an American populace that actually cares, that agrees with our moral imperative, our patriot perspective, and are willing to live by our oath."

In addition, he said Americans are to blame for illegal immigration.

"We the People are to blame. Not the Mexicans. Not Liberals. Not (Sen.) Ted Kennedy. ././. We are to blame. We invite them. We pay them. We educate them and care for them. We as a nation must be honest about it."

Marlett also said in an interview that the experience of running the Web site has changed some of his views on immigration and that he was disappointed by the sometimes "hateful" and "blatantly racist" talk from some supporters of the site.

In addition, he said that people on all sides of the immigration debate need to realize that a lot of businesses in the United States need migrant workers.

Benjamin Bodnar, who owns Integrity Landscape Management in Hampton, Ga., signed up as a member of ProAmerica last year after hearing about it on a television news show.

"My customers all know that I won't hire anybody that is here illegally," he said. "That means a lot to them."

Bodnar also said that he was disappointed that larger businesses did not participate in ProAmerica.

"How many companies are more concerned about the bottom line than following the law?" he said. "That makes you think about how corrupt some companies are."

Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga., was a strong supporter of the ProAmerica site, saying the idea was similar to 'Made in the USA' labels, which allow consumers to support producers of American-made products.

Broun's spokesman did not respond to requests for comment about the Web site shutting down.

    Eunice:

I was sorry to see you take Mr. Marlett at face value, but I understand after what happened to us.

Mr. Marlett's ProAmerican company site did not fail due to lack of public interest. Also in error is his statement he is leaving because of ""hateful" and "blatantly racist" talk".

Your article is Marlett's departing punch on behalf of the side he truly serves.

Marlett's website failed because he was ostracized from our movement because we believe he has worked for the pro amnesty pro illegal alien side all along.

When Marlette originally contacted me, I believed he was a sincere activist for the pro immigration enforcement movement. I even signed an open letter to leaders in New Jersey, along with about 20 other leaders, calling for more enforcement in the wake of the Newark massacres.

Shortly after that, several of us noticed highly suspicious behavior by Marlette. We caught him trying to sabatoge pro immigration enforcement events, and trying to get himself right in the center of the movement while secretly bashing groups and trying to stir up trouble. We also noticed that Marlette was using language and terminology that is almost never used by those in our movement, but is frequently used by the opposition. What Mr. Marlette failed to realize is that ALIPAC heads up the largest coalition effort in our movement with over 100 organization working together in the NIIBC (National Illegal Immigration Boycott Coalition) and that many of us are in regular contact with other leaders of groups. This allowed us to detect and expose David Marlette as an agent for the Open Borders Lobby doing his best to infiltrate our movement's core where he could act as an agent saboteur.

The final straw was when we discovered a direct relationship between Marlette and the pro amnesty group "One People's Project". Upon confrontation, Marlette admitted associating with one of our top opposition groups La Raza aka NCLR (National Council of La Raza) aka (National Council of the Hispanic Race)

I made the decision, along with Daniel Smeriglio of Voice of the People USA and Peter Gadiel of 9/11 Families for a Secure America, to issue a warning to over 300 organization leaders and core activists in our movement.

You can review this open warning that was issued on Fri Aug 31, 2007 11:16 pm at this link...

We also believe that Marlette was behind threatening phone calls made to Congressman Paul Broun's home where his wife took the call. I cannot tell you this is 100% accurate, but we were told the call was so threatening that the Secret Service was contacted. The message conveyed to Congressman Boun's home was David Marlette's message consistent with what he was trying to do behind the scenes.

These actions were also detected and observed by two other leaders close to the situation John Clark (AIC), and Ron Bass (United Patriots).

So you see, David Marlette's messages in your article are the messages he has carried all along. We detected him and exposed him for his lies.

He can now bow out with a parting shot via your article because he can gain no more traction within our movement and is of no further use to the side he really serves as we have ostracized him from our movement.
