The White House hopeful’s comments on citizenship may alienate GOP voters.

    Jim Stratton

When Fred Thompson said it might be time to review the practice of granting citizenship to every child born on American soil, he didn’t acknowledge the seismic shift such an idea represents.

Citizenship by birth has been prescribed by the Constitution since 1868 — and upheld for 109 years by the Supreme Court — but the Republican presidential candidate made it sound anachronistic.

Not only should it be changed, but citizenships granted to illegal's anchor babies over the last 10 years, should all be rescinded.

This bill will be the straw that broke the camels back.

    Just think about it.

There are ways of amending the constitution and it must be done to get rid of anchor babies. All they would have to do is add that the mother of the baby must be a legal resident or citizen and must be able to prove it.

Hispanic leaders — many of them Republicans

Now that is an oxymoron. Some Hispanics may be Republicans, but their leadership isn't.

That would never pass discrimination clauses. Fathers of babies born to illegals would scream. It would have to be one parent, but phrased in such a way where paternity would have to be proven.

I think proof of a legitimate relationship also needs to be proven or you will find women renting wombs and/or men impregnating illegal women for pay, simply to provide a "legal anchor baby". The penalties for this behavior would have to be extremely stiff, mandatory, and enforced.

From what I have learned the anchor baby law derived from the days of slavery. It was never intended as a means for illegals to stay here. I think our fore fathers who framed this in the costitution would be rolling in their graves if they heard about the situation today.

    swatchick,

Even during the days jsut after the 14th amendment it was never ment as a clause of someone giving birth on U.S. soil as a means of giving automatic citizenship. It ment that the parents were under the "jurisdiction there of) meaning they were not aliens, or foriegners, this was a SEVERE misinterrupitation of the Constitution and the 14th amendment. Our politicians are whores and will say whatever they feel will garner them the most votes, and that is the illegal alien community.

Their plan, hatched by Mexico is to bankrupt all of us into paying for their thieiving lieing a$$, and their supposedly "us citizen child" Which is nothing more than a lie. Our political whores, err I mean politicians like this as it leaves them, and only them to have complete control and power. It also with an added benefits gives them the ability to levy more taxes to pay for more illegals.

It all boils down to this right here. Democrats want a new voter base, people from south america are socialist and will vote for whatever candidate will promise the most for them. Republicans like the cheap labor and are catering to the business lobby so that businesses can keep the products they make ARTIFICALLY cheap, as well as depress wages through the nation.

When you have both parties with the same goal the American people lose. That is why it's hard to find a politician on either side who sees this as clear cut stupidity.
