DeFazio calls for renegotiation of NAFTA trucking provisions

Those in opposition to opening the U.S. Mexico border to long-haul trucks from Mexico are taking aim at the concept from a whole new direction.

Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-OR, is asking his fellow lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives to join him in calling on the Obama administration to renegotiate trucking provisions contained in the North American Free Trade Agreement.

DeFazio, who serves as chairman of the House Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, has been a vocal opponent of opening the border to long-haul trucks from Mexico, repeatedly citing safety concerns and challenging the tariffs Mexico imposed on U.S. goods as being “retaliatoryâ€

Don't "renegotiate the treaty". REPEAL THE DAMN TREATY AND WITHDRAW FROM THE WHOLE FRIGGING MESS OF NAFTA TREASON.

Wake Up Republicans! Get with these Democrats and repeal all this stupid, idiotic, catastrophic free trade treason and restore simple tariff laws that protect our trade and keep our trade payments in balance or in surplus. It's not hard. Americans have done this since the formation of our country until of late when our government was infested with Free Trade Traitors who think more of a handful of businesses lining their campaign coffers than they do the sovereignty of our nation and the liberty and prosperity of our people.

Nobummer won't pay any attention to this anyway, so I am not going to get my panties in a bunch. He will ignore the will of the people once again. I cannot wait until 2012, but hopefully we can get rid of him before that. IMPEACH NOW before he can go anymore damage. If healthcare does not get done he will be angry like a little boy and will try harder to get his wishes met.

Obama will be angry, not because he cares whether people have money or insurance to pay their medical bills, but because he can't fool the American People any more. His agenda isn't what our country wants, it's not what our country is about, it's not what our country needs, and the American People who at large have supported him as a person, have totally rejected his policies and agendas now that they understand what they are. And if he knew anything about our country, he would have known that and never pursued them to begin with.

While I'm a Republican and didn't support Obama in the election, as an American who feels so strongly about civil rights for all, I hoped with all my heart for all Americans especially Black Americans, that the first black President would have a successful term of office and do things that people would and could look back on and say, he did a good job and did some good if not great things for our country, the same as we hope all our Presidents will do.

But, so far he hasn't created any jobs, he hasn't stopped any illegal immigration, he hasn't passed the FairTax, he hasn't ended free trade treason, he hasn't repealed NAFTA, or done anything else to further our liberty or prosperity. All he's done is run up our debts, tell the world we aren't a Christian nation and let his Attorney General announce to the world that he thinks we're a nation of cowards on the issue of race, when Americans are the only nation on earth that's ever laid down a life for the liberty of another on the basis of racial equalty.

How could someone who went to the best schools in our country not know the country he wanted to govern?

It's just inexplicable. And it's a shame. It really is. My great grandfather was one of the Americans who volunteered to fight and lay down his life if need be at the tender age of 18 to end slavery, free 4 million slaves and establish racial equality in our country.

For my great grand-dad to see the first black President in the American White House would thrill him to no end, but he would weep at the agenda, he would be heart-broken to hear the remark that labeled our nation a "nation of cowards on the issue of race" when he watched tens of thousands of Americans die horrible deaths in acts of courage for nothing more than racial equality. How could men like Obama and Eric Holder say such horrible things that are so wrong and so false about the American People and our ancestors?

It's tragic when there are thousands and thousands of qualified black Americans to run for President of the United States who understand economics, our history, our struggles, our courage and the character and achievements of our nation which empowers them to be able to successfully lead our country, that someone so disconnected like Obama was chosen instead. How was that possible? It's just tragic all the around for everyone.

As to impeachment, I don't think we can impeach this mistake, we can just learn from it so as never to repeat it unless and until he actually violates a law and commits an impeachable offense. But for the future, as in the past, candidates for President of the United States must be natural born citizens, they must be of our country solely in order to lead it which means they must be the child of two US citizens and born on US soil, verifiable, confirmed, before their name even appears on a primary ballot in the United States.

But if we do that Judy, we will hurt the megamillions in profits from windfalls the global elite have been accrueing at the expense of the American worker. It took these elites a hundred years to break the shackles of fairness and equity, so they could sit on high as the robber barons of old.

Let's be honest, I don't believe anyone would have been able to get the 'Unfair Tax' passed through the U.S. Congress. :wink:

Oh! Well, they've been able to get 70,000 undecipherable pages of the unconstitutional income tax through Congress for lets see ... uuuh uuuh uuuh .... going on about 97 years now without a blip!

Dorgan (D-ND), who initially worked so hard to keep Mexican trucks out of the country, later said that it was a "safety issue", and that he had no problem with having Mexican trucks in the country as long as they are safe. Perhaps DeFazio's bringing this up this way will reopen the subject of NAFTA as a whole, together with Obama'a campaign promise to "re-examine" the treaty, although that's perhaps too much to hope for. I have a lot of respect for Rep. DeFazio.

Hah....this would be great but they are going to have a hard time since major corporations like Ford, Maytag, Hersheys, Kraft etc. etc. etc. have moved their factorys to Mexico....

Thank you for posting this! Judy is right: these men and women deserve our support for sponsoring and co-sponsoring this legislation! Originally this was offered as a proposed House Resolution by former Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA), who also was co-author with former CA Congressman Duncan Hunter (Sr.) of the excellent TRUE Bill on immigration reform. (Unforuntunately Deep Sixed by Rep. Sennenbrenner and replaced with his H.R. 3341.) The only Democratic co-sponsor of the original resolution was Gene Taylor of MS, who is the author of this bill. I see Dem. Bart Stupak, who is holding out on the healthcare bill on the issue of abortion, is one of an encouraging number of co-sponsors. The original resolution only had Goode, Walter Jones, and Taylor, as I recall.
