    Defrocked Priest Faces Deportation

    Defrocked Priest Faces Deportation

    WOODLAND, Calif. — Mar 20, 2015, 6:02 PM ET

Federal immigration authorities have arrested a former Northern California priest and are preparing to deport him to Mexico after he admitted having unlawful sex with a 16-year-old altar girl.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials say agents arrested 46-year-old Hector Coria Gonzales at his home in Davis on Friday.

He was being held without bond at a county facility while his case is reviewed by an immigration court.

Gonzales pleaded guilty to statutory rape in Yolo County Superior Court in July for engaging in sexual acts with a 16-year-old girl who belonged to the St. James' Parish in Davis where he served as a priest.

He was in the country legally, but that changed when the Catholic Church stripped him of his priesthood after his conviction.

So he is stripped of his priesthood, well and good but at least one rape too late. IMO he should be facing life without parole or death penalty. Why would we deport without prosecution, or is something missing in this story?

Former priest who pleaded guilty to sex with teen facing deportation

A former priest who pleaded guilty to having sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old girl from his Davis parish is facing deportation.

Hector Coria-Gonzalez, 46, who is from Mexico, was taken into custody Friday at his Davis residence by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, ICE said. He is being held without bond.

Coria-Gonzalez reportedly sentenced to 90 days in jail and three years of probation after pleading guilty in 2014.
At the time of his arrest he was in the U.S. legally.

He was later stripped of his priesthood, ICE said. That allowed ICE to being deportation proceedings.

"We entrust members of the clergy to act as role models for our youth," said Michael Vaughn, assistant field office director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Sacramento, in a press release. "Tragically, when that trust is violated, the effects are far-reaching."

Coria-Gonzalez's case will now be reviewed by an immigration court.

Ninety days jail and 3 years probation is about as fitting as a $25 fine for armed robbery.

If they would let me be a judge I could fix that.

    But, they won't, so I can't.

Wow. The age of consent in California is 18. In most states it's 16. Well, he certainly shouldn't have been having sex with church members to begin with, regardless of the age, so as we say from time to time:
