Release Date: December 1, 2020
DEL RIO, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Sector arrested three dangerous criminals over the weekend, including a man with an attempted murder conviction.
“Criminals often turn to illegal immigration in an attempt to enter the United States undetected,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Austin L. Skero II. “Thanks to the dedication of our agents, these dangerous individuals were stopped before they could enter our communities.”
Sunday, Del Rio Station Agents arrested Victor Cuate-Gonzalez, 33, a citizen of Mexico, shortly after he illegally entered the United States. During processing, record checks revealed that Cuate-Gonzalez was convicted of Attempted Murder in New Jersey in July 2006 and sentenced to five years in prison before being removed from the United States in October 2009.
Agents assigned to the Eagle Pass Station and Eagle Pass South Station arrested two sex offenders shortly after they illegally entered the United States. Baudillo Rojas-Ortega, 53, a citizen of Guatemala, was convicted of Sexual Assault by a Relative in February 2007 and sentenced to 307 days in prison before being removed from the United States in January 2011.
The second offender, Ramiro Castanon-Arredondo, 30, a citizen of Mexico, was convicted of Indecency with Child-Sexual Contact in December 2015 and sentenced to 16 months in prison before being removed from the United States in August 2018.
As convicted felons, they each face a charge of 8 USC § 1326 – Re-entry After Deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
