CAFTA Supporters Cranking Up Lobbying Efforts for Next Week

    The Nelson Report

    Tues., June 7, 2005

TRADE: the CAFTA vote count remains very much in doubt. So...similar to moves which helped push China PNTR and Fast Track renewal through Congress, CAFTA will be the subject of an “All Hands on Deck meeting on Capitol Hill on Thursday (June 9). The Business Coalition for US-Central American Trade will meet in the office of the House Majority Whip and the House Republican Conference, on coordinating a business push for next week’s planned Ways & Means “non-mark-up mark-up...a device to test strength and make deals, if possible.

The circular spells out the tactics: “...the Coalition is urging its members to reenergize their efforts, particularly company representatives, to step up the pace of meetings, phone calls and letters to Members...In addition, if your organization, factory managers or your employees have sent letters to Members...please share them....so that we can help the Administration and Hill leadership recognize the level of company activity. If you would like your letter placed on the Coalition’s website, please so indicate...

    Work Ahead

    Thank You, JP.

This Tuesday (6/7), the Agriculture Committee Senators had a meeting to hear (more of the false pros) about CAFTA. I called Saxby Chambliss this same day. I went to Chambliss's website and there is the talk of the meeting. Not sure of Chambliss's position.

Good news I found is that both North Dakota Senators stand stoutly opposed. Kent Conrad's (D-ND) website has an article from the Sugar Industry strongly against. In Conrad's article it said that the Senate Finance Committee will be looking at CAFTA next week to attempt to get approval. The members of the Senate Finance Committee can be found at www.congress.org -- let's hit these Senators. Lindsey Graham of S.C. is also strongly against.

I think they plan to try to get CAFTA passed in Senate first as it may be easier. Badly today I found that the Winston-Salem Journal and the Hickory Daily Record here in Hickory had a pro-editorial but was reserved, saying that basically, some things may not be best but overall and in the end, CAFTA will be beneficial to North Carolina'. How wrong can they be -- it will all be bad just like NAFTA is. So the media is chiming in too. Some of these idiots think, hey, whynot? There is just no other business deal to do or law to pass, whynot just do something new?.

NO, global Trade goes on all the time just fine and the U.S. has always done global Trade since the Nation was formed with out these bogus corrupt "Free" Trade deals.

Oh, and there is our "great" President spewing all kinds of global this and that this week.

    Thanks Again.

Yes, most of MSM has been pro CAFTA the past several weeks.
