Demand for armored vehicles up in Mexico

Frontera (Tijuana, Baja Calif.) , El Porvenir (Monterrey, Nuevo Leon) 6/11/08

Carlos Nava Guerrero, manager of Car Armoring Service, said the demand for armoring of cars has increased 40% and that Tijuana businessmen request armoring up to level 4 and 5 to protect themselves against kidnapping because those levels repel AK47 gunfire assaults. Unit cost can vary from fifty to eighty thousand dollars and any type of car can be armored, said Nava. He also emphasized that personal security should not be left in the hands of the authorities and added that two hundred kidnappings have taken place starting from the second semester of 2007. An average of 7 to 8 units are sold each month and increases have also been noted in Mexico City, Monterrey and Guadalajara.
