FROM STAFF REPORTS

Border Patrol agents from the Calexico Station rescued three illegal immigrants from the dangerous currents of the All American Canal earlier this week.

At about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, agents operating a remote video surveillance system observed three people drifting uncontrollably in the canal, the agency reported Friday. Responding agents deployed rescue throw bags and successfully pulled all three people out of the All American Canal to safety.

The agency warned that although the All American Canal appears to be calm, “it is extremely dangerous.” None of the people involved in the incident was wearing a life-preserving vest.

All three people were unharmed and found to be Mexican citizens illegally present in the U.S. They were transported to the Calexico Border Patrol station for further processing and observation.
