Deported in 2007, Mexican man is arrested in cocaine sting in Reading

A Reading man who was deported to Mexico in 2007 for being in the United States illegally was arrested after he sold cocaine to investigators in Reading, authorities said Thursday.

Jesus Sandoval-Salvador, 28, of the first block of South 10th Street sold nearly 5 ounces of the drug for $5,880 to an undercover Berks County detective who had arranged to meet Sandoval-Salvador at 10th and Cherry streets Wednesday afternoon, detectives said.

Police arrested Sandoval-Salvador and found he had a loaded 9 mm handgun that had been stolen in a home burglary in Shillington in 2005, officials said.

County and city detectives, working jointly as part of the Berks County Drug Task Force, began investigating Sandoval-Salvador in November after they learned he was selling cocaine in the city, said Michael J. Gombar, chief detective with the district attorney's office.

Detectives said Sandoval-Salvador sold one-tenth of an ounce of cocaine for $120 to a detective Nov. 19 in the 800 block of Penn Street.

Sandoval-Salvador was charged with possessing and intending to deliver cocaine, receiving stolen property and firearms offenses.

He was committed to Berks County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bail following arraignment before Senior District Judge Richard L. Reeser in Reading Central Court.

Officials with the Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement also ordered Sandoval-Salvador detained pending deportation proceedings.
