Deportee Sentenced To More Than 2 Years In Prison For Illegally Reentering U.S.

HARTFORD — A 46-year-old man who authorities say illegally reentered the country after being deported was sentenced to more than two years in federal prison on Wednesday.

Jovanny Arsenio Rosario, a citizen of the Dominican Republic, was arrested after a traffic stop in Tolland in September 2012, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's office. He had previously been convicted of an aggravated felony and was deported.

Police found 28 bundles of U.S. currency in the vehicle, totaling $369,346, the U.S. Attorney said. Arsenio Rosario, who was with two others in the vehicle, said the money was related to drug trafficking activity, the U.S. Attorney said.

In December, Arsenio Rosario pleaded guilty to one count of illegal reentry after being removed from the U.S. subsequent to a conviction for commission of an aggravated felony.

He was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Rovert N. Chatigny in Hartford to 33 months in prison.
