Dead on Arrival

The White House proposal on immigration shows just how difficult it will be to strike a deal.

One of the more tiresome clichés in Washington is that if both ends of the political spectrum are lighting their hair on fire over a proposal, then the authors of that proposal must be doing something right. That was the charitable defense of the immigration framework released by the White House on Thursday night, which proposed a path to citizenship for nearly 2 million immigrants in return for a massive increase in border-security funding and a permanent crackdown on who is lawfully admitted into the country.
Another possibility: If both ends of the spectrum are lighting their hair on fire over a proposal, the proposal is dead-on-arrival because no one likes it. The White House’s immigration proposal appears to be dead for that very reason, and the reactions to it demonstrate just how difficult it will be to get a DACA bill to the president’s desk that he will sign into law.
The headline figure that drew the most attention was the White House’s willingness to offer a path to citizenship for about 1.8 million Dreamers, either recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or those eligible for it. In exchange, the White House asked for a whopping $25 billion for border security, an elimination of the visa lottery (and redistribution of those visas to existing immigration backlogs), and sharp cuts to family visa sponsorships(read more:https://slate.com/news-and-politics/...eady-dead.html)

I hope DACA has no chance. I hope Congress kills this stupidity, this insanity, this invention of Wack-O-Doodles. President Trump, stop this nonsense. Just walk away. Do not dirty your Presidency with any more talk, meetings or proposals about amnesty for anyone.

Instead of crafting a bunch of amnesty proposals it would be nice to see a serious uptick in enforcement. Targeting more employers, issuing fines and giving jail time does send a message.

It would send a powerful message to hear the president issue warnings to businesses about hiring those here illegally. He should say we want jobs available and protected for American citizens.

All of this amnesty talk is giving reason for people to continue to hire illegally, for more illegal immigration. It is double speak to say we are cracking down on illegal immigration but we are going to give legalization and a pathway to citizenship to millions. However, we may send ICE. What chaos.

I guess this shouldn't be surprising considering Trump also promised to end DACA immediately after entering the White House.

Do not detain...deport within 24 hours!

I don't believe it does either.

Democrats will never sign off to end chain migration and funding the wall in full.

This contradicts the democrat agenda, they need to flood the country with illegal immigrants to hold power.
