That's right, they do not speak for him. They mess up all the time. They speak for themselves. This Dougherty guy hasn't met with Trump to discuss this. Trump met with Republicans Monday night and was as clear as mud with them. He gave them the big laundry list of what he demands in exchange for some type of DACA deal and left it right there in the mud for them to wrestle with. Trump doesn't want a DACA deal if you ask me. It makes no sense, it costs hundreds of thousands of jobs for Americans who need them, costs billions and billions of dollars to support them and their anchor babies, why would he want a stupid DACA deal? He wanted the debt ceiling raised to deal with the Hurricanes and keep the government running. He wanted the health care bill and tax cuts passed.

I realize it looks like Trump is redefining amnesty, he like many operate with a different definition from the one we use, he equates amnesty with citizenship and regardless of what amnesty he's referring to when he says no amnesty, he and we know what he means when he says no citizenship.

There is no deal on DACA, never was, only in the minds of Chuck and Nancy. Just my opinion, but I think he played them to get the debt ceiling increase and hoped he could pull out a passing vote in the Senate on the health care bill. He got one but not the other.

DACA + Deal = Amnesty. There is no getting around that and Trump does want a DACA deal (amnesty) and has said as much.

The "no path to citizenship" won't work. The Democrats would never accept it because they want these folks as eventual Democrat voters. Furthermore, even if an amnesty deal was cut that included no current path to citizenship, it wouldn't remain that way for very long because it would be at odds with the values of many Americans. It would never be considered acceptable for such a large group of people to remain here in permanent limbo, which is basically what we have now. That would make them 2nd class 'citizens' with no actual citizenship papers and no path to obtain said papers. Nope, such a notion would never fly and would not be sustainable as a permanent fix. Whether a path to citizenship is included in the immediate deal or not, we've got to be smart enough to know it will come sooner or later.

The only appropriate course I can see here is to allow DACA to naturally wind down, which would force the illegals in the program to once again become deportable aliens. Basically, things would then be back where they were before the Obama administration created the unconstitutional DACA program.

Any plan that allows people currently residing in this country illegally to convert their status to legal is amnesty, regardless of whether they have a path to citizenship or not. Trump's thought that amnesty is only amnesty if it includes a path to citizenship is absolute balderdash and he knows it! I wouldn't be surprised to find out he received that silly selling point from someone like his Chief of Staff, John Kelly, or his top adviser, Jared Kushner. Trump's administration may be trying to sell it, but we're too smart to buy it!

I'm not actually sure if he purposely lied or this is just another one of his quick turnaround flip-flops. President Trump is showing himself to be one of the biggest flip-floppers to grace the planet earth. The man will say something one day and change or soften his position quicker than the bat of an eye. I think Trump's real problem is lack of conviction on immigration issues. For example, take someone like Jeff Sessions, he's a man we can depend on to remain stable and consistent. The man just doesn't waiver on his stated positions (he's always been that way). Trump, on the other hand, has no true convictions on immigration and is flexible to a fault. Basically, he depends too much on the influence and guidance of the folks he has chosen to surround himself with. Just my thoughts, for what they're worth.

Dougherty lied, not Trump. You'll see as time moves on. There is no DACA deal with Trump. He may eventually agree to one, but he hasn't agreed to anything so far.
