Today I received a letter from NJ motor vehicle commission instead of my license renewal form. I received a letter that states,

"We have begun efforts to validate information contained in our database against information contained in the Social Security Administration files
"Our review indicates as of 9/29/03, the Social Security number on your motor vehicle record does not match Social Security Administration files.
If this discrepancy is not corrected with MVC, you will not be able to renew your driver license or non-driver ID card

"It is not necessary for you to contact the Social Security Administration AT THIS TIME. We will make every effort to correct this discrepancy for you by phone or written correspondence.

If we are unable to do so, you will have to bring your social security card along with other acceptable proofs of identity to an agency when you renew your driver license or non-driver identification card."

"We view these initiatives as appropriate and necessary steps in reducing identity theft and other forms of driver license fraud to protect the public."

First of all I called the 1-888-486-3339 number and spoke to a Liz...I told her this wasn't possible that my records don't match Social Security Administration records BECAUSE I WAS just to the Social Security office last year to get some work info corrected….Liz said I miss understood …it doesn't match the Social Security Administration files of MVC….which she said has all zero's…
She told me to call ext 5071 AND GIVE MY CORRECT NUMBER AND INFO…

Instead I called the Social Security Adm. and told them what is in this letter…spoke to Andrea. She said usually when there is letters going out to the public requesting info etc. they get an e-mail explaining the agenda and she hadn't received any E-mails about this letter. I asked her if there are 2 sets of SS Adm. files? She said no and stated that they can access the SS records and do, so they could have gotten this info. I ask if there were any other complaints.. She said not recently. but that's probably because i just recieved the letter today...To say the least… this is forcing you to comply UNDER devious, miss leading and deceptive tactics.
p.s. if i'm not mistaken..about 6 months ago i read an article that said NJ MV had lost, distruded or records were stolen OF HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE IN NJ. AND THEY WANT PEOPLE TO SUPPLY ALL THEIR INFO. EVERY YEAR WHEN WE RENEW REGISTRATIONS AND LICENSES YOU HAVE TO PUT YOUR SS # ON THE FORM... I CAN'T FIND THE ARTICLE... AS A CITIZEN I HAVE TO HAVE 6 POINTS OF ID .
NON-CITIZENS CAN ALSO GET LICENSES...THEY CAN PROBABLY USE FALSE ID...OR YET JUST BUY ANOTHER FAKE LICENSE....

I'D LIKE TO KNOW IF ANY OTHER STATES HAVE BEEN SENDING THESE LETTERS OUT TO CITIZENS????
