Donald Trump to Congress: ‘Do Your Job’ to Help DACA Recipients

President Donald Trump urged Congress to act to help recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), illegal immigrants brought to the United States as children who received legal status from former President Barack Obama.

“Congress, get ready to do your job – DACA!” Trump wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.

Trump is choosing not to renew DACA, but it appears that he chose to outsource the explanation of the decision to keep his campaign promise to Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

The president does not have a speech scheduled on the subject, but may send some messages about the issue on Twitter or later in the day during a White House event with reporters.

The New York Times reports that “an anxious and uncertain” Trump tried to find “a way out” of keeping his campaign promise.

In the afternoon, Trump will speak to the press briefly after meeting with members of Congress and his administration on tax reform and may share some thoughts about his decision.

Obama staffers have signaled that the former president will make a statement on social media, after Trump’s decision is announced.

I continue to believe that President Trump is an amnesty president. That tweet was not for the American people. He wants amnesty, just how big we don't know.

No, he isn't GeorgiaPeach. He ended the program, letting it expire and refusing to renew it. But what he did that I can only explain now because I only now only understand it, was the baby talk about "big heart" and "hard decisions" which was a "throw a bone" move to the Pastor Franklin, that's where the "heart" crap came from, and what Trump has done is kicked it to the Congress to kill it with the appearance of wanting to help the DACAs. The "big heart" talk was to that group of evangelicals who want a Dreamer Bill, they helped him win the white House, maybe more than we did. He knows that, so this whole 6 month phase out and the "big heart" talk was for them. It wasn't for the illegal aliens, it was for this evangelical group of Trump Supporters who wanted amnesty for Dreamers. The issue is now where it should be, back with the people of the United States and our Congressional Representatives.

It's out of the courts, the program expired, is not being renewed, Texas lawsuit should be dismissed later today, assuming Paxton is happy with the style of the termination of the program. As much as we wanted the work permits to be declared null and void, that actually isn't possible within the laws that apply to work permits issued by DHS. They've given renewals not already in progress only a 30 day window to apply. Then everything else associated with the work permits just expires over-time and goes away. There's no urgency to drive Congress any more and by Friday, no one will even want to talk about it. The DACAs will start finding it extremely difficult to get jobs because employers won't want to hire someone whose work permit expires in less than 2 years.

It's still enough to "trigger" Obama and protests, big ugly mouths of illegal aliens and their drug cartel-financed supporters yelling and causing havoc in our streets, neighborhoods and schools/campuses. They will all be showing their socialist radical personalities and political views and the disgust with that will soon over-ride any sympathy some Americans may have felt for them.

It wasn't the whole ball game we wanted, we wanted it all over, work permits included, but that really wasn't possible under the rules of law that bind DHS, so it was a great day. Because the program expired and is not being renewed, but gives a 30 day window to renewals not already in progress, allows renewals already in progress to be "adjudicated" on a "case by case basis", which is ample notice and complete fairness in treatment, there will be no lawsuits over this. It was painful for us waiting, but at the end of the day, it has been done well, orderly, legally and properly and with the proper messages about fairness to citizens, the protection of the national interest, Americans First, and the rule of law by Jeff Sessions, our wonderful Attorney General.

Steve Mnuchin, an outstanding Secretary of the Treasury, has already debunked all the bull about the impact on the economy the opposition was claiming would be lost due to ending DACA stating clearly on Fox News Sunday that any jobs filled now by illegal aliens will be filled with Americans going back to work.

We still need to lobby as hard as we can against all those amnesty bills, ENLIST, SAVE, BRIDGE and any others that have been introduced or will be. We need to work on Cantoring anyone who co-sponsors one or more of these bills or even vocally indicates they would vote for it.

I agree with you. Trump action on DACA now and over the last eight months proves he supports amnesty. The program never had an expiration date, but Trump was forced to respond to AG Paxton's lawsuit and this was his response. Now he's punted the ball to the congress and is encouraging them to save DACA through legal protection (amnesty). I don't think there is much doubt that Trump would sign an amnesty bill for DACA. Of course he has already mentioned his support for a comprehensive immigration reform bill in the future.

Donald Trump is an AMNESTY President and he lied to and deceived us all about immigration.

It is clear that man of his campaign promises mean the world to Americans like us but mean very little to him.

Hi Judy. I understand your comment about the compassion part for those like Jentzen Franklin, yet that will not satisfy them. What do we see today, the illegal aliens out demonstrating and people like the Hispanic business counsel gentleman resigning and others bashing the president for lack of compassion.

President Trump has since the end of January continued to give legalization and citizenship paths. Whatever act of appeasement Trump's amnesty voices crafted to allow the dreamers to continue in DACA for a time, extending the renewals will not be the bone tossed that the opposition wants. Full blown amnesty hidden behind the "little dreamers" is their goal. The extended time is purely for Congress to see if they can do an amnesty. Hopefully it will fail. Voting out republicans for it needs to happen, too.

Let us wait and see what the president says and does going forward. There will be leaks, fact and fiction, and maybe we can find some truth among them.

Today was the compromise but did not honor the promise to end it the first day of the administration. If that had been done, when the momentum for it was hottest, a mandate to deal with illegal immigration at the forefront, the closer date to the president's promise, it is less likely that so many republicans would have jumped on the amnesty train as they now seem to be doing.

DACA has been decided for today. Our fight, which we all agree on, is to continue to battle the amnesty legislation such as the Bridge Act and others. We have calls and emails and faxes to send. The dreamer coalition is out in the millions with their plans, protests, calls, picture postcards, etc. Soros and big money is in for the win. We must be in for win for the American people.
