Donald Trump Interested in Immigration Reform Bill for More Workers

    January 9, 2019

    Charlie Spiering

“I would love to see a big immigration bill where we really take care of the situation,” Trump said during an Oval Office bill signing ceremony to combat human trafficking. “We would like to see real immigration reform in this country because we need it, and it would be a beautiful thing.”

The president cited continuing low unemployment numbers and a steady flow of companies returning to the United States as an argument for importing more workers.

“We need people. We need great qualified people. We want them to come in,” he said. “I think it’s a great time right now. … In Ohio, you need workers.”

The president commented that the shutdown fight was very narrow, primarily concerning border security, but said he hoped for bigger immigration reforms in the future.
“Everybody wants to see immigration reform. It’s overdue, and it’s always been very political, and maybe this will turn out to be a blessing in disguise,” he said.

It is unclear what kind of deal the president is prepared to offer Democrats ahead of the 2020 presidential election.

In 2018, House and Senate Democrats rejected the president’s plan to offer a pathway to citizenship for 1.8 million illegal immigrants who were brought to the United States as children in exchange for funding for a wall on the southern border and ending the visa lottery program and chain migration.

We need to get Americans OFF welfare and food stamps.

Bring the Trades back into schools Grades 9-12.

We need to get work programs for the inner cities to get to work.

WE DO NOT WANT MORE FOREIGN LABOR!

Oh boy, here it comes. More foreign worker program expansions at a minimum and illegal alien amnesty at worse ... more than likely both possibilities are in our future. It's a never ending fight.

Immigration Reform means Amnesty for illegal aliens. Trump's comment means he is signalling the Democrats and RINO Republicans he wants to pass full immigration reform Amnesty for illegal aliens.

I think here he's talking here about his green card reform to a merit-based system that ends chain migration, visa lottery and cuts the number of green cards by 40%, so instead of importing welfare users, the merit-based system would be bringing in fewer people but more good qualified people including permanent workers. This is one of his goals and a campaign promise.

Pure speculation because there is nothing in what he said that would indicate he's talking about ending chain migration, ending the visa lottery and cutting green cards. However, he was very clear in saying we need to import more foreign labor.

Which wouldn't apply to people already in the country illegally who are criminals, can't read, have no skills and will day one sign up for welfare. Since June of 2015, he's always talking about his merit-based green card program when he's talking about "bringing good qualified people in".
