Authorities Say 9 Mexican Mafia Members Charged in Spring Break Stabbing

CAMERON COUNTY - Authorities say nine Mexican Mafia members accused in a stabbing at South Padre Island during Spring Break are now charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in criminal activity.

The group from the San Antonio area is allegedly connected to the March 17 stabbing of 21-year-old Derek Madrigal. He was hospitalized for 10 days following the attack.

Police worked with DPS investigators and Texas Rangers on the case.
