The small handgun a man used to kill himself in the back of a Yuma Police cruiser May 6 was simply missed by a Yuma Police officer who searched the man following arrest, the police chief said Tuesday.

The deceased man, identified by police as Ervin Antonio Castro-Arroglia, 32, was an illegal alien from Nicaragua who had prior felony convictions and had previously been deported.

Officer Kevin Caylor had made the arrest and was driving to the police station when Castro-Arroglia committed suicide in the back seat.

"The officer was questioned at length during the investigation," Yuma Police Chief Robby Robinson said during a news conference Tuesday. "Obviously, the weapon was missed by Caylor when he did the search."

Robinson said the gun, a semiautomatic Lorcin L-25 .25 caliber handgun, was hidden "down the back of (Castro-Arroglia's) pants or (in his) groin area."

Officers are supposed to search these areas when arresting or detaining people, Robinson said.

Robinson said the gun was "a little larger than a cell phone" â€â€

Simply missed? This cop needs to be fired. PERIOD. Supposed the vermin had shot him in the back of the head, or if the shot had "simply missed".
I'm telling you, this is not pretty and this guy does not need to be a cop.
Single digit, low frequency fool. I am not anti-cop, but I am vehemently oppossed to STUPID-COPS

With out doing a strip search things get missed, even guns, knives and dope. Don't jump down someones back unless you have been there and done that.
