Dozens urge Governor Brewer to veto immigration bill

Dozens urge Governor Brewer to veto immigration bill

PHOENIX -- Outside of the downtown Sheraton, a small but vocal group chanted slogans and held signs Saturday night, demanding to have their voices heard.

They were hoping to catch the governor's attention as she spoke at an event hosted by the Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

They want Jan Brewer to veto what could become some of the toughest immigration policies in the country.

Senate Bill 1070 would make it a crime for people to be in the country illegally, and it would require officers to ask about a person's immigration status if there is any doubt he or she is a US Citizen.

    Protestors say it's too much.

"We feel like it's going to legalize racial profiling and cause tension between the latino community and the government," Orlando Arenas said.

Inside the hotel, the governor was also encouraged to veto the bill when it lands on her desk.

When she took the podium, she didn't give a definite answer, but did mention the measure.

"I hear you and I will what I believe is the right thing so that everyone is treated fairly," she said.

Hispanic leaders say there's a lot is riding on the governor's next move.

"We will remember this when she goes for governor. If she does sign this, she's not going to be governor," Salvador Reza said.

Supporters of the bill say it would cut down on crime and keep police officers and citizens safer.

Why would a bill that allows police to arrest illegal aliens cause "tension between the latino community and the government"?

Is the "latino community" threatening the government? This does not speak well for the "latino community". I don't believe Orlando Arenas speaks for the "latino community". He speaks for illegal aliens who are "latino". BIG FAT DIFFERENCE, Orlando. How dare you come into our country violating our laws, stealing our jobs, robbing our resources, bankrupting our nation and threatening our government with "tensions"?

    Governor Brewer

    Governor Brewer,

DO NOT LISTEN TO ILEGAL ALIENS AND THEIR FRIEND. ILLEGAL ALIENS DO NOT RESPECT OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS. IF AMERICANS DO NOT OBEY ANY LAW, DO WE ASK THE GOVERNMENT TO GRANT AMNESTY? NO. WHAT DOES THE GOVERNMENT DO? THEY SEND US TO JAIL. GOVERNOR, YOU HAVE TO SIGN THE BILL INTO LAW. WE NEED THAT TO STOP THIS ILLEGAL ALIEN SITUATION. THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DO NOT WANT ILLEGAL ALIENS IN THIS COUNTRY. THE DEMOCRATS DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. YOU ARE A REPUBLICAN AND WE LIKE THAT. SO DO NOT STOP GOVERNOR. SIGN THE BILL AND LET'S GO FORWARD AND STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ONCE AN FOR ALL.

Yeah...it sure the hell sounds to me like they are making threats against the government! Yet, these loud mouth agitators are given considerable leeway to spew their threats unabated because they are hispanic and probably illegal at that!

Making threats is what these people do best! Their leaders back in mexico do the same thing!

Who cares about what illegals think about our laws. If they don't like them, they could easily leave. We don't want them here any way. And as far as the Latino community goes, they could leave right along with the illegals.

We should all call Gov Brewer's office and request she sign the bill, even if we don't live in Arizona. Because surely three-fourths of the people calling her office to demand she veto the bill are illegal aliens. So if her office is considering the wishes of foreign nationals who aren't in this country legally, then they definitely should listen to those of us who are U.S. citizens. I know its not Gov Brewer's fault if illegals call her office, they're not going to identify themselves as illegal. But her office has to know that many of them are.
