Dream Act In-State Tuition for illegal aliens fails in VA!

Looks like this legislator tried a new sneak play. He made a bill that prevents illegal aliens from going to college at in-state tuition rates, but then opens the door for illegals to enter college if they meet certain criteria. Sneaky sneaky, and it failed!

No Tuition Break for Illegal Immigrants

AHouse of Delegates subcommittee effectively killed for the year a bill that would have allowed some illegal immigrants access to in-state tuition rates at Virginia colleges and universities.

Members of the subcommittee said they were concerned about an informal opinion issued by a deputy attorney general that suggested that extending in-state tuition to illegal immigrants might force the state to offer similar tuition breaks to non-Virginian U.S. citizens as well. They voted to carry the bill over for further consideration until next year.

The bill, sponsored by Sen. Emmett W. Hanger Jr. (R-Augusta), would have barred many illegal immigrants from receiving the lower rates given to Virginians. However, it would have made an exception for undocumented students who had graduated from a Virginia high school, whose parents had paid income taxes for at least three years and who swore they were pursuing legal residency.

The committee heard testimony from Leo Alonso , a Blue Ridge Community College student who moved to the United States from Mexico when he was 6 and was undocumented until 1998. Alonso, an Army veteran who served in Baghdad and Fallujah, told the committee that allowing students to attend Virginia colleges would show that the state "recognized and maximized their potential."

Several delegates said, however, that they thought extending benefits to students who arrived in the country illegally would be unfair to immigrants who followed U.S. law.

But they can still go to college, right? Just not at in-state tutition rates? They shouldn't be allowed in our colleges at all.

And I guess you know by now that some Iranian who was going to UNC drove into a crowd of people today and injured 9. Nine counts of attempted murder. What in hell is an Iranian doing here?

Back in 1979, when Jimmy Carter let them keep American hostages in the American Embassy in Tehran for months on end, I should have thought that it would have made sense to keep them all out from that point forward. When, since then, has Iran NOT been considered our enemy. I'm too lazy too look it up but I believe that Iran is one of the countries listed on my passport that I am NOT allowed to visit without specific permission from the US State Dept. Libya and Cuba are definitely two. So, what is an Iranian doing going to UNC?????
