There are 30 million illegal aliens in the United States. There's plenty of illegal aliens to deport without even getting to these DACAs. The problem is lack of the right resources, ICE Agents, BP Agents, Immigration Prosecutors and Immigration Judges. There is plenty of government manpower throughout the federal government, just not in the right places authorized to do the right things to solve the problem.
DHS has 229,000 employees, but only 5,000 ICE Agents. We have 10,000 FBI agents in the DOJ chasing mainly white collar crimes and now we learn political agendas, but only 5,000 ICE Agents responsible for enforcing US immigration laws against 30 million illegal aliens already inside the United States. We have 100,000 employees in the IRS reviewing tax returns, but only 5,000 ICE Agents.
Trump has made formal budget requests to increase ICE agents by another 10,000 to 15,000 since last February, but Congress won't give him the money to fund the positions. Until this problem is solved, he really needs far more than 15,000, but that would make a big difference. He's also asked for 1000 more immigration prosecutors and 500 more judges, but Congress refuses to fund it.
What he really should do at this point is issue an EO that authorizes any willing state and local law enforcement agency to actively engage in enforcing US immigration law without fear of reprisals or lawsuits by the federal government for doing so. He supports several bills in Congress that do this, but Congress refuses to even have a vote on them so far because we don't have the votes in the Senate to pass them.
So he has to figure out a more stream-lined way to expedite deportations with the resources we have, and have ICE be more effective targeting much larger groups of illegal aliens in each raid and arrest effort. It's all about the numbers, and we're way outnumbered at this point with no legislative or budgetary fix in sight, because we don't have the votes in the Senate to pass the bills we need or the funding for stronger enforcement.
Vote Republican in 2018, and if we get 10 more Senate seats, then we can pass the bills we want and secure the funding we need in 2019. At this point, another year won't matter.
