Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says Alabama's controversial immigration law is the result of inaction by the federal government - what she calls "the single biggest disappointment of her time in Washington."

Speaking to the Mobile Press-Register (http://bit.ly/upTE76), Rice says comparing the immigration issue to Alabama's civil rights past is unfair to the state and that "We don't need to revisit the old stereotypes."

Rice says Congress is not likely to act on immigration soon because 2012 is an election year. The Birmingham native also says she has no desire to return to politics and is not yet ready to endorse a GOP candidate for president, though she says there are good candidates.

In her home state this week, Rice attended this weekend's Alabama-LSU football game.
