Illegal immigrants should be deported
Published Monday, September 8, 2008

This letter is in response to the "Help critical workers stay here," letter published Aug. 28.

Let me get this straight: Are we being asked to write to our congressman and tell him to reward people for breaking the law? People who sneak into this country are illegal aliens. They engaged in illegal activity. They broke the law and continue to break the law every day that they remain in this country.

There are currently about 20 million illegal aliens here and their numbers are growing by the thousands every day. That's a big problem. But to reward these lawbreakers by giving them a pass causes an even bigger problem.

Our nation was founded upon the rule of law. Our citizens generally respect and obey the law. When people violate the law, they are arrested and punished appropriately. That's how we maintain law and order. The people who came here illegally have no respect for our laws.

Enforcing our laws is what allows this country to maintain a safe and orderly society. If we make it a practice to reward people for breaking the law we are in deep trouble as a nation.

The appropriate punishment for entering this country illegally is deportation. Illegal aliens should be sent back to their home country and asked to wait their turn to come into the nation of laws the legal way.
