Edinburg First City to Implement Voter ID Law

EDINBURG - The city of Edinburg will be the first municipality to implement the state's new voter ID law.
Early voting for a special election in Edinburg begins Wednesday. Three candidates are vying for the Councilmember Place 1 seat.
Gus Garcia Jr. resigned the spot in May, when he became the executive director for the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation. Armando J. Marroquin, Richard Molina and John de la Garza are the candidates for the spot.
Early voting will take place at the Hidalgo County Elections Administration Annex Building at 317 North Closner. Voters can cast their ballots on the following days from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.:
- Wednesday, August 28 - Friday, August 30
- Tuesday, September 3
- Friday, September 6
- Monday, September 9 - Tuesday, September 10
Early voting can also be done on the following days from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Wednesday, September 4 - Friday, September 6
Election Day is Saturday, September 14.
Voters must present a valid form of identification before casting a ballot. The seven acceptable forms of identification are:
