Mendoza backs bill halting citizenship assessment

Assemblyman Tony Mendoza, D-Norwalk, is urging Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to sign into law a bill that would prohibit school districts from asking about students' citizenship status.

Assembly Bill 132 was introduced by Mendoza after several high-profile immigration raids in 2008.

"We all have opinions on immigration, but I hope regardless of those opinions, we all agree that our society benefits when the education of our children continues uninterrupted," Mendoza said.

The bill states that immigration raids should not disrupt students' education, however it would not prevent or limit federal investigations into students' status. The state does not have authority over federal immigration agencies.

AB 132, which passed both houses in the Legislature, also recommends that schools offer counseling to students who have been questioned by Immigration Customs Enforcement agents.

The measure is supported by the California Teachers Association. Mendoza, whose district includes Artesia, Cerritos, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, Norwalk and other cities is a former teacher.

As a former teacher one would think that this idiot knew what the definition of "our" is.

The pro-illegal crowd is doing all humanely possible to "keep the ball in the federal court" (pun intended), where issues of illegal immigration and employment can be tried as often possible in terms of "civil rights" and "discrimination" cases. Federal court is where all the great landmark civil rights rulings of the 1960's were won and these discrimination precedents set. That also explains the swift attack by the Obama DHS on effective local enforcement programs such as 287(g). Of course, media accounts usually fail to mention that the lawyers now seeking "great new 'civil rights' decisions" in the field of illegal immigration are not people like the late Thurgood Marshall, who won the original landmark decisions on behalf of African Americans; rather, they are members of the wealthy American Immigration Lawyers Association, now trying to present foreign lawbreakers as being as eligible for rights under our Constitution as U.S. citizen African Americans who had waited for theirs for over 150 years.

Illegal invaders and their offspring are not our children! Therein lies the problem!
