    Eight Illegals Caught -

Why are these people getting so much special treatment than citizens of this country? Its seems as though WE ARE THE ILLEGALS and THEY ARE THE LEGAL AMERICAN CITIZENS. Americans are arrested every day and most if not all ot them have childern. Although they are not anchor babies and children, they are children non the less. Stealing is stealing and these people and I do mean all eight of them belong in JAIL. Oh no they are good hard working people. Thats a joke and so is our justice system. Our government like that of Mexico is corupt. Stealing form those in need now thats is REAL LOW. Is there no limit to just how low these people will stoop?

    Welcome upsman!
Of course they didn't track down where the supplies went....gotta remember they are under emergency conditions out there right now. Hopefully the six they arrested will give up the buyers of the stolen goods in an attempt to get released. (Sad thing is they probably will cut 'em loose)

    Sent this to NPR

NPR's All Things Considered" Ran the piece below today; See underneath what I sent tp NPR/All things Considered.

Fires Highlight Safety Needs of Migrant Workers
    by Amy Isackson

All Things Considered, October 25, 2007 · San Diego County is home to tens of thousands of immigrant workers, both legal and undocumented. Their homes and workplaces may be at risk, but poor access to services and fear of immigration authorities at evacuation centers may keep some from seeking shelter.

Workers in California's lucrative agriculture industry are among those in limbo.

Jesus Gomez from Oaxaca was at his job at a nursery in San Diego's North County when the Witch fire roared in from the east. His crew kept working while wind whipped smoke and ash in their eyes.

"They gave us masks, but still, our eyes were filling with dirt and ashes. So, we keep working, but then the police came in," Gomez says.

He says his boss told him to stop working only after law enforcement gave the mandatory evacuation order. He's been out of work since, though he may be an exception.

    Personal Safety Versus Employment

At the tomato field across the street and at other fields too close for comfort to the fires, many laborers have not missed a day tending the crops.

Alberto Lozano of the Mexican Consulate in San Diego says he's concerned that the workers care more about their jobs than their personal safety.

"They could smell the smoke and they could see the light of the fire. But since their boss didn't order them to leave, they were thinking they were just saving their jobs," Lozano says.

San Diego's tomato business is worth about $88 million annually. The nursery business is worth $1 billion. About 1,500 of the thousands of immigrant workers who tend those crops live in the canyons among the county's toniest suburbs.

Most of the homes in those suburbs were evacuated earlier this week, when residents received word from emergency services providers that it was time go. Not so for the canyon dwellers.

"There's no reverse 9-1-1 for them," says immigrants rights activist Enrique Morones.

Morones says many stayed, figuring they could outrun the flames. Other illegal immigrants who actually had homes were reticent to go to shelters. He says they're used to living in the shadows and are afraid to register at evacuation centers.

    Border Patrol Aiding Law Enforcement

Shortly after flames began consuming wide swaths of San Diego County, rumors that federal officials were conducting immigration raids also spread across the county.

The Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement are lending 200 officers to law enforcement efforts during the fire.

Just their presence in the streets ignites people's fear.

Both agencies say, however, that immigration status is not their primary concern in San Diego right now.

    Crossings Now 'A Foolish Risk'

There's also word that smugglers are telling people that now is the time to cross the border illegally from Mexico — to take advantage of the chaos.

"Anybody who is thinking of crossing the border with fires raging is taking an exceptionally foolish risk," says Department of Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff. He issued a stern warning when he visited San Diego this week.

"Being in the area of the border now with an unpredictable fire is a life-threatening mistake," he said.

Border Patrol reports that it has arrested 200 people trying to cross illegally in the fire area since Monday. Six remain hospitalized with burns and one is in critical condition.

Late Thursday night, Border Patrol agents on routine patrol found four charred bodies in a wooded area near Barrett Junction, just east of San Diego and along the Mexican border, agency spokeswoman Gloria Chavez said. Authorities said it was not immediately certain whether the wildfire caused their deaths, according to The Associated Press.

Amy Isackson reports from member station KPBS.

I sent NPR/All Things Considered this(below) to ask them to cover the stealing also reported by NPR station KPBS.(but was not covered nationally on All things Considered)

I used the contact page http://www.npr.org/contact/

ref piece titled "Fires Highlight Safety Needs of Migrant Workers by Amy Isackson"

I would like to ask All Things Considered/NPR to update this piece by reporting with information from the piece titled.

"Eight Detained For Allegedly Stealing Qualcomm Supplies" by Amita Sharma

It adds another viewpoint/datapoint to the listeners of NPR to illegal immigration during this disater.

Illegal Immigrants Suspected of Stealing Supplies From Calif

You know it is a disgrace that some illegals comes to this country and live here for 13 years , now I am wondering how in the heck did that happened ?

My family came to this country 41 years ago , They obtained a visa first , My father paid for the plane ticket and bought me and my mother to USA the legal way by getting a Visa.

Then my parents applied for a green card which this makes the person and family who ALL applied for a green card to be Legal to live and work in USA ..

over 32 years I have finally applied to be an American Citizens. I payed the $$$$ for all the papers and other legal things that is needed. and waited for two years in order to take the test ( which a person must know ENGLISH ( READ,WRITE, AND SPEAK and known the history of USA).
I passed with flying colors and became an American citizen.

The thing that bothers me , My parents came here legal and applied for everything legal and I became an American legal .. why on earth can these Illegals do the same thing I did ?

I tell you why ?THEY REFUSE TO LEARN to READ, SPEAK, AND WRITE ENGLISH and LEARN our history.. in order to take the US CITIZENSHIP TEST.

But they want us AMERICANS to pay so they can have SSI, free welfare, free housing, a Driver Licenses #. and they want amnesty too?

I say no way the hell with it .. There is no need to make new laws for these criminals .. the old law is still there all they have to do is apply for a green card and so many years down the road after they LEARN ENGLISH they can apply for Citizenship.

I can say this it sickens me to know my children who are born in USA are being cut off of MEDICAID , but yet these illegals can speak another language and get everything for free.

you know in Mexico if an American goes to their country illegally they face Prison time and an illegal American can not own land , get free anything .. why are we doing it ?

This needs to stop before it destroys our CHILDREN and Their children's future.
OK I chit chat enough ..

    peace to all

Lara67: Welcome aboard! Thanks for your comments.

Yes, one of the flaws of the current system that doesn't get enough attention, is that it does treat people that do follow the rules to gain legal residence/citizenship rather marginally. Of course, I'm sure we here all appreciate the fact that your family followed the required procedures and did it all legally.

I know other folks that have become naturalized citizens - all of which, followed the same time-consuming, tedious, and perplexing process. It is not cheap, nor inexpensive. At the same time, I'm sure there is room for improvement in the system and one day, after all the current mess is satisfactorily cleaned up, that, CIS in particular, will streamline their processes.

Oh yeah... congratulations are becoming an American
(Thanks for doing it all the right way )
