Enforce Immigration Law, or Change It? Answer May Be Both
    Ronald Brownstein

    July 11, 2005

The simmering debate about illegal immigration arguably revolves around a single distinction.

One side says the problem is that Washington will not enforce the existing immigration laws. The other says the existing laws cannot be enforced, at least with a rational expenditure of money and manpower.

These contrasting assessments of the problem drive the competing proposals to solve it â€â€

    WHERE HAS THIS WRITER BEEN?

He writes "(maybe 800,000 illegal aliens enter a year)". Is this a joke? Is this man NUTS? Next time before you try and "guess" in an article where you're spouting your NONSENSE to confuse everyone, pick up the phone and call Border Patrol who will tell you I'm sure the same thing they told Sean Hannity that they apprehend 1,200,000 a year and MISS 4,000,000 to 5,000,000 a year.

HOW DO THEY KNOW? The have "cameras" on the borders. They can count them. That's the only reason they have "cameras" instead of troops.

There is only one LEGAL SIDE to this "debate".

Enforcement of the existing US Immigraiton Law.

If citizens in lawn chairs can substantially reduce the number of illegal crossings, then obviously adequate numbers of Border Patrol and National Guard Troops and Local Law Enforcement can grind it to a halt.

If employers are prosecuted, then the "job enticement" to come here will go away.

If government hand-out programs are not available to illegals, then the "benefits enticement" to come here will go away.

With no jobs and no benefits to steal from Americans, what possible motivation would there be to come here?

Oh sure....the drugs, the weapons, and terrorism. That's right up the alley, don't you think of DEA, ATF, Border Patrol, Homeland Security, and Army National Guard. I mean that is what we pay them all to do, right? Stop Drugs, Stop Illegal Weapon Sales, Stop Border Corssings, Secure the Homeland, and USE ARMED FORCES IF NECESSARY?

Sounds like a veeeeery simple plan to me, and we don't need any new laws to achieve that. Add a new law clarifying that local law enforcement is responsible for protecting its local populations from drugs, illegal weapons, illegal aliens and terrorists....and you're HOME FREE to solve the problem of FLOW.

Deport illegals in accordance with existing law to get those out that are here already.

Prosecute lawbreakers of immigration law in accordance with existing law so they learn this will not be tolerated in the United States.

WHAT CAN BE SO HARD ABOUT THAT?

Nice try, Washington Post, but no cigar for THIS "story". This tale was designed to confuse, not educate or report or enlighten. We're on to you; we've got your number; we're watchin' your every word....written by your Globbie Pens.
