BREWSTER COUNTY, Texas (Big 2/Fox 24) - The Brewster County Sheriff’s Office, along with the US Border Patrol, arrested several Mexican citizens on Thursday night.

According to Brewster County Sheriff Ronny Dodson, deputies arrested 13 Mexican citizens believed to be in the country illegally.

We spoke with Sheriff Dodson earlier this week after he sent out a notification regarding increased presence in the area of Marathon. Dodson says the influx of immigrants being found and arrested in Brewster County has significantly increased in the last two months.

“I guess they have closed down a trail some place and have opened it up on us,” Dodson said.

Earlier this week Dodson noted his deputies, along with border patrol are finding immigrants in the dozens almost daily.

It is stretching his office thin, even with the help of from the US Border Patrol.

“It has definitely increased, more than we have seen in a long long time,” Dodson said this week. “We don’t know if that’s attributed to the efforts of other Border Patrol Stations around and they are now coming to us or just a new influx. It is just a bunch of people.”

But it isn't just Brewster County. To the east, Terrell County is dealing with a similar problem. Terrelly County Sheriff Keith Hughes said back in January, they are also stretched thin in dealing with an influx of immigrant crossings.

Hughes
says in just two months, his office has nearly matched the number of apprehensions they had throughout 2018.

Both Sheriff's are now urging their residents to be vigilant.
