Anti-Islam ‘hate group’ cancels rallies after seeing 40,000 anti-fascists in Boston

An anti-Muslim group believed to be the largest in the US just cancelled dozens of rallies after seeing 40,000 anti-fascists in Boston.
ACT for America was due to hold 67 ‘America First’ rallies in 36 states on September 9, ostensibly to show its support for the ‘common sense America First’ policies pushed by president Donald Trump.
But in the wake of the Boston protests on Saturday, these have now all been cancelled.
According to ACT’s founder Brigitte Gabriel, the America First rallies will now be replaced with an ‘online “Day of ACTion”‘.
In a statement reported by far-right news site Breitbart, ACT said: ‘In recent weeks, extremist and radical organisations in the United States and abroad have overrun peaceful events in order to advance their own agendas, and in many cases, violence has been the result.’
Gabriel has previously said that devout Muslims ‘cannot be loyal citizens of the US’, that ‘every practicing Muslim is a radical Muslim’, and that Arabs ‘have no soul’.
Earlier this year, ACT held ‘March Against Sharia’ rallies in 28 cities across the US.

Southern Poverty Law Centre calls the ACT an ‘extremist group’, and says that since its founding it has ‘grown into far and away the largest grassroots anti-Muslim group in America’.
Similarly, the Council on American-Islamic Relations defines it as ‘an anti-Islam hate group’.
Gabriel, however, denies any accusations of Islamophobia and racism.

Racial tensions in the US are rising after a neo-Nazi ‘Unite the Right’ march in Charlottesville, Virginia, on August 12 ended in bloodshed.
A 20-year-old white supremacist has been charged with murder after mowing down anti-racist counter-protesters with his car, killing 32-year-old paralegal Heather Heyer.
Just one week later, as many as 40,000 anti-racists descended on a ‘free speech rally’ organised by conservatives on August 19.
The rally on Boston Common, which organisers have claimed was unrelated to Unite the Right, was cut short after the incredible show of strength from those protesting against white nationalism.
