Driver Flees USBP, Later Arrested

Release Date: February 12, 2021

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif.—U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agents arrested a man in Imperial Beach Thursday afternoon who was transporting illegal aliens in his car.

At approximately 5 p.m. on February 11, agents initiated a vehicle stop on a suspicious black Cadillac sedan near Sunset Avenue and Saturn Boulevard in Imperial Beach, Calif.

The driver failed to pull over and fled from agents at a high rate of speed. During the pursuit, the driver of the Cadillac side-swiped a marked Border Patrol vehicle and another vehicle before coming to a stop.

The driver of the sedan, later identified as a 19-year-old U.S. citizen, then fled on-foot but was quickly apprehended. Inside the Cadillac, agents discovered three Mexican nationals, including a 15-year-old boy, who were illegally present in the U.S.

Agents rendered first aid to the driver, the three smuggled aliens, and the passing motorist whose vehicle was struck by the Cadillac.

Emergency medical services (EMS) arrived and provided further medical care for all involved. Shortly after, EMS medically cleared everyone.

The driver and three smuggled aliens were taken to a nearby station for processing. The driver faces criminal charges for alien smuggling and the U.S. Border Patrol seized the man’s black Cadillac sedan.

To prevent illegal entry and other contraband, the U.S. Border Patrol maintains a high level of vigilance on corridors of egress away from our Nation’s borders. To report suspicious activity to the U.S. Border Patrol, contact San Diego Sector at (619) 498-9900.
