Exhibit Takes on Border Fence
Produced by Lynette Kalsnes on Friday, July 25, 2008
A local museum's taking a stance against a security fence along the Mexican border.
The new exhibit at the National Museum of Mexican Art is called A Declaration of Immigration. Museum founder Carlos Tortolero says the exhibit is in direct response to the border fence.
TORTOLERO: Years from now, when the wall goes down—I mean, that wall will go down—people are going to be asking people, what did you do when the wall was being built? And we want to say, we stood up to this craziness, this madness. I think it's un-American.
The show reflects the experience of various ethnic groups in paintings, photos and multi-media pieces. One piece, called C Jane Run, is a quilt made of squares cut from shirts and pants, all held together with safety pins. Each square is printed with the caution signs found at the border showing a running man, woman and child.
Supporters of the fence say it's necessary to tighten the border, and improve national security.

Ok - Can we permit 50,000,000 Americans to go to Mexico to start a Little America, today? Buy land, build hospitals and jails, and etc. we know what people need and want.
Mexico, Americans can correct your governmental problems.
And guess what we are sending back all your citizens, too.
This is fair trade for all the money we donate to your country annual.
Counter plan to help Mexico grow from being a third world.
