U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officers arrested a St. Lucie County man Wednesday following a joint investigation conducted by ICE and the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office.

Haitian national Vladymir Pierre-Louis, 34, a convicted sexual predator, was ordered removed by an immigration judge March 28, 2006. His subsequent appeal to the Board of Immigration Appeals was dismissed on July 26, 2006, according to ICE reports.

ICE spokeswoman Barbara Gonzalez said the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office played an integral role in the investigation with ICE.

Pierre-Louis was convicted of lewd assault on a minor in Palm Beach County on Sept. 30, 1994.

Pierre-Louis had been eluding law enforcement officers since his appeal was dismissed and his order of removal became final, according to ICE officials. His arrest is part of a nationwide initiative known as Operation Predator that protects children from sexual predators.

ICE targets Internet child pornographers and criminal alien sex offenders and child traffickers. Since the initiative was launched in July 2003, more than 8,200 individuals nationwide have been arrested.

Pierre-Louis was living in St. Lucie County at the time of his latest arrest and working as a supervisor at a West Palm Beach law firm, officials said. He is in ICE custody at the Krome Detention Center in Miami. His removal from the country is imminent, according to ICE officials.
