LAS CRUCES - The Department of Homeland Security plans nearly 81 miles of border fence between Santa Teresa to the state's Bootheel, the Albuquerque Journal reports in this morning's edition.
According to the Journal reports, 5-foot steel barriers fashioned after those used by the Germans during the World War II French occupation, will augment 15-foot high steel fencing finished last week near Sunland Park.
The paper reports the barriers are being placed throughout Southern New Mexico in an effort to curb human smuggling and drug trafficking.
The Journal reports the estimated $120 million project should be completed by the end of the year.
