Federal authorities are arresting illegal immigrants in Austin, but little information is being released.

Agents with U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement are conducting a "law-enforcement operation" in Austin, "but because it's ongoing, we really aren't providing a whole lot of detail right now," said Tim Counts, a spokesman for the ICE agency in the Twin Cities, on late Thursday afternoon.

"We have made arrests; again, this is nothing random," Counts said. "This is a targeted enforcement action. We're looking for specific individuals."

As usual, however, agents are encountering other undocumented immigrants and are taking them into custody as well, he said.

In December, federal authorities arrested 21 illegal immigrants over two days in Austin as part of a nationwide initiative.

All of the Austin detainees were adult men who were found at various residences in the city. Overall, 45 immigration-status violators, including nine fugitives who had received orders to be deported, were arrested from Dec. 5 to Dec. 8 in Albert Lea and Austin.

The arrests, part of ICE's "Operation Return to Sender," were focused on fugitives. While seeking them, 36 others were arrested after they were found to be in the U.S. illegally.

They need an operation to clean out the city financed day labor center(s).

I would call that Operation Easy Pickens.
